Sports have become such a joke in the last several years after giving into ‘woke’ politics.
The phrase “representation matters” has echoed throughout every professional sport in America, namely the NFL.
At least one NFL head coach is having none of it though.
A reporter asked Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles about the significance of facing Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin this week, and their relationship as “two of the few black head coaches in the league.”
Bowles did not take the bait on the racially charged question, instead simply saying that the two have a very good relationship.
“We don’t look at what color we are when we coach against each other, we just know each other,” Bowles added.
Another reporter chimed in, insisting on pushing the topic of race by asking Bowles, “But you also understand that representation matters too, right?”
She then asked about aspiring (black) coaches and players and the significance of seeing someone who “looks like them” or “grew up like them.”
At this point, Bowles appeared to have had enough.
He gave this doozy of an answer:
“Well, when you say, ‘They see you guys,’ and ‘look like them and grew up like them,’ it means that we’re oddballs to begin with,” Bowles answered. “I think the minute you guys stop making a big deal about it, everybody else will as well.”
Coach Bowles handled that very professionally.

In one of the few games this season where two Black head coaches will face one other, Bucs coach Todd Bowles downplayed the significance of facing Mike Tomlin this week. “I don’t think it’s a big deal,” he said. https://t.co/6Fyp5ofvp2

ESPN reported on the racially charged questions given to coach Bowles:
Bowles then was asked about the impact of representation and what it means for aspiring coaches who are minorities to see NFL coaches who “looks like them” and possibly “grew up like them.”
“Well, when you say, ‘They see you guys,’ and ‘look like them and grew up like them,’ it means that we’re oddballs to begin with,” Bowles said. “I think the minute you guys stop making a big deal about it, everybody else will as well.”
Reporters tried to get Buccaneers Coach Todd Bowles to say something woke about playing against another black coach and he nicely told them to take a hike https://t.co/yjepebzCfa

'We don't look at color': Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles downplays race in matchup vs. Mike Tomlinhttps://t.co/Qmrr7th3Ra

USA Today added more on coach Bowles’ thoughts on diversity:
There are four Black head coaches currently in the NFL. Two of them will face off Sunday in the Week 6 game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Yet Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles said he doesn’t pay particular attention to race when he coaches or when he assesses his relationships among the other coaches in the league, including Mike Tomlin of the Steelers.
“I have a very good relationship with Tomlin,” Bowles said Thursday in a news conference. “We don’t look at what color we are when we coach against each other. We just know each other. I have a lot of very good white friends that coach in this league as well and I don’t think it’s a big deal as far as us coaching against each other. I think it’s normal.”
Bowles handled himself like an absolute professional here.
The reporters should be ashamed of themselves.
Todd Bowles in my kind of guy. https://t.co/fmdoCjQ1fR

God bless Todd Bowles for having the courage to say this that it’s the media constantly bringing up color that creates the division in this country! ESPN is the worst offender. I’m glad Todd had the chance to correct many of the I’ll conceived notions about this subject https://t.co/ZmxMs6ouKw

I now love Todd Bowles and will cheer for him for the rest of his career. Not because of his color. But because of the man he is. What an awesome example.

I was already a Bucks fan. Now, I’m definitely a Todd Bowles fan! It’s not about the color of our skin. It’s about our character, integrity and work ethic. Coach Bowles gets that https://t.co/tLniYpw690
