The horrific collapse of Ousmane Coulibaly shocked the football world this weekend.

However, another shocking incident that occurred a few days ago at the São Paulo Football Junior Cup has flown under the radar.

The youth competition is played by Brazilian under-20 football teams, mostly from São Paulo state.

In a contest at Baetão stadium, São Bento midfielder Lucas Santana suddenly fell ill and collapsed on the pitch.

The 18-year-old suffered a malaise, and a medical unit removed him from the stadium by ambulance.

ge.globo.com reported:

Midfielder Lucas Santana, from São Bento , had to leave the Baetão stadium, in São Bernardo do Campo, by ambulance after feeling sick on the field during the confrontation against EC São Bernardo, valid for the teams’ debut in the São Paulo Junior Football Cup.

In the 17th minute of the second half, the player collapsed on the field after apparently suffering a malaise. The match referee went to the player and requested medical attention. After the first calls, the ambulance entered the field to remove the player to an emergency care unit.

After undergoing head and spine exams, Lucas was released by doctors and is with the São Bento delegation. The player will have to stay 24 hours without doing any physical activity by medical recommendation.
