In light of the situation, residents are asked to avoid East Huron River Drive and Haggerty.

WXYZ Detroit reported:

Chopper video shows at least six cars off the track.

Officials say only one car in the train was carrying hazardous materials, which is reportedly showing no sign of leaking or damage.

The fire department says the derailment is causing traffic issues, but poses no danger to the public at this time.

FOX 2 Detroit noted:

Both north and southbound traffic is blocked due to the incident, which happened just south off I-94 and west of Belleville.

It’s unclear what happened, but police said there are no injuries and the area is not a hazmat situation.

Roads will be closed for a few hours, the Van Buren Police Department said.

The Van Buren Township incident is the latest in a series of train derailments across the country, the most serious being the East Palestine derailment.
