Three Police Officers and K9 Killed While Serving a Warrant

Violence against law enforcement officers has been on the rise within the last couple of months and the violence has yet to be quelched.

The most recent violent attack against police officers occurred in Kentucky.

Three police officers including a police canine were killed while responding to a domestic abuse call in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

According to the Kentucky State Police, Capt. Ralph Frasure, Deputy William Petry, K9 Drago, and Canine Handler Jacob Chaffins were all gunned down while serving a warrant.

The man allegedly behind the shooting was 49-year-old Lance Stirz who is now in police custody.

Fox News had these details to add:

Three Kentucky police officers and a police canine were killed and at least four other officers were injured following a shootout in a residential area in the city of Prestonsburg Thursday night, police said.

Prestonsburg Police Capt. Ralph Frasure and Deputy William Petry were identified among the deceased, as well as K9 Drago and Canine Handler Jacob Chaffins, Kentucky State Police said.

Lance Storz, 49, was taken into custody following a shootout at his home, as two officers arrived to serve him an arrest warrant shortly before 7 p.m. Storz, armed with a rifle, opened fire and struck both officers, the Prestonsburg Police Department said.

Floyd County Sheriff John Hunt told reporters Friday that the officers encountered “pure hell” when they arrived on the scene, saying they had “no chance.”

Other officers from different jurisdictions responded to the incident and at least four were injured, they added.

BBC had more on the story:

Three police officers have been shot dead in the US state of Kentucky while trying to serve a warrant on a man accused of domestic violence.

Police took the 49-year-old suspect into custody after the shooting.

Floyd County Sheriff John Hunt said the officers had faced “pure hell” when they arrived at the man’s home.

Four other people were injured at the scene in Allen, a small town in a mountainous part of eastern Kentucky with a population of just 166.

The officers who died in the shooting late on Thursday have been named as Capt Ralph Frasure, Deputy William Petry and dog handler Jacob Chaffins.

K9 Drago, one of the dogs that Mr Chaffins handled, also died.
