New CNN CEO: “We’re the Leader in News to the Left”

By now, you’ve heard that Jeff Zucker is out at CNN!

Well, his new replacement has already made a stunning admission.

Discovery is purchasing CNN, and Discovery CEO David Zaslav said, “We’re the leader in news to the left.”

Did you catch that?

To the left.

He didn’t say, “We’re the leader in news.”

In other words, the new CEO is apparently admitting that CNN is biased and will continue to stay biased.

Watch below:

At least the new CEO is saying the quiet part out loud.

We’ve all known for years that CNN likes to pedal “fake news.”

But this admission from the CEO is stunning.

It’s like… they’re not even trying to hide it anymore!

The New York Post confirms:

The boss of CNN’s new parent company said on Friday the network was “the leader in news to the left” – but his communications team soon scrambled to walk back the frank admission, insisting he wasn’t talking about politics.

Discovery CEO David Zaslav, whose media giant is set to close its merger with CNN’s owner WarnerMedia this spring, made the surprise remark during a discussion about the network’s future – days after the abrupt resignation of the network’s president, Jeff Zucker.

“We have this great entertainment menu, which should keep people in the home, from the kids to the grandparents. Why would they go anywhere else? And then we’re the leader in news to the left,” Zaslav told CNBC on Friday.

Zaslav’s comment drew a surprised response from CNBC host Joe Kernan, who wondered aloud if it was a reference to CNN’s ideological bent.

“Definitely to the left. Did you say to the left?” Kernan said, before taking back the question, saying he “probably shouldn’t have said that.”

Zaslav didn’t clarify in response, and it immediately went viral on social media, where users pointed to it as an acknowledgement that CNN leans left politically.

Can you imagine the outrage if the CEO of Fox News said a similar thing?

There would be nonstop screeching from the left!

Now, it seems like the plug has been pulled at CNN, and they are doing whatever they can to stay relevant.

News should just be news.

There shouldn’t be a tilt.

The reason the “right” has had to create its own media ecosystem is because the mainstream media is notoriously liberal.

Now, it appears that the truth is finally coming to light.

Red State has some meaningful analysis:

Zaslav has, in the past, signaled a dissatisfaction about CNN’s current direction, noting that he felt things would be better off if we “just had news networks in America.” Clearly, there is some consternation going on at Discovery ahead of their takeover, and why wouldn’t there be? CNN’s ratings are in the toilet, and they’ve lost every bit of credibility they once had as a more neutral news network. You can imagine those realities have hurt the network’s finances as well.

If changes are coming, that would explain why so many people are going to bat for Zucker as being irreplaceable when he was objectively failing. He was the protector of the status quo, and a lot of hosts and staffers had gotten really comfortable doing their own thing without much accountability.

But as I said, Mediaite has “corrected” its story, with the latest claim being that Zaslav meant the left side of Discovery’s portfolio.

Put me in the camp of not buying that clarification from Zaslav, especially when he had a chance to say what he meant immediately and didn’t. The mention of sports being on the right side of the portfolio later smacks of him trying to clean up the mess he made. Besides, CNN is not a “leader in news” — unless you are expressly talking about the left.

Regardless of what he actually meant, I don’t think Discovery bought CNN to keep things as they are. I do think changes are coming, and that could include some big names being moved from their perches. Something has to give because no parent company buys a network just to keep the terrible ratings going. Discovery is going to want a return on its investment, sooner rather than later.

In other words, people are now saying that the Discovery CEO misspoke and that his words are being taken out of context.

What do you think?

Do you buy the correction?

Or do you think the truth finally came out?
