“The View” has long been criticized for the far-left conspiracies and half-truths expressed by co-hosts and guests.
Nevertheless, the backlash over Whoopi Goldberg’s recent remarks about the Holocaust was harsh enough to convince ABC to take action.
News broke this week that she would be suspended for two weeks after declaring that Adolf Hitler and the Nazis were not motivated by racism when they carried out the extermination of millions of Jews.
The liberal actress went on to issue a half-hearted apology and appeared on “The Tonight Show” in an attempt to defend her rhetoric.
Goldberg also tried to repair the damage during the opening segment of the next day’s show.
As Fox 7 Austin reported:
Goldberg had apologized via social media late Monday for her statements on the show that day, where she said the Holocaust was “not about race … it’s about man’s inhumanity to other man.” Panelists on the show had been talking about a Tennessee school board’s banning of “Maus,” a Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel about the Nazi death camps during World War II.
“I misspoke,” Goldberg said at the opening of Tuesday’s show.
“My words upset so many people, which was never my intention,” she said. “I understand why now and for that I am deeply, deeply grateful because the information I got was really helpful and helped me understand some different things.”
She said that “words matter and mine are no exception. I regret my comments and, as I said, I stand corrected and I stand with the Jewish people as they know and y’all know, because I’ve always done that.”
It was not enough to please her critics, including some who worked with her at ABC.
The network’s president confirmed that Goldberg would be suspended for a couple of weeks.

Of course, plenty of social media users felt that the punishment did not go far enough.
Consequences only go one way folks. You should know this by now.

Whoopi should be fired. She is suspended for two weeks? That sound like a Paid Vacation to me.
Roseanne was fired for making a joke on Twitter but ABC said they don’t accept apologies.

Despite getting off with such a minor consequence for her actions, sources say Goldberg is still upset that ABC dared to suspend her at all.
The New York Post provided some insider info:
Whoopi Goldberg is “livid” after she was suspended from “The View” over her claim that the Holocaust was “not about race” — and is telling co-workers she is going to quit the show, according to a source.
Goldberg, 66, feels “humiliated” at being disciplined by ABC execs after she followed their advice to apologize for the ill-conceived comments, a well-placed insider told The Post.
“She feels ABC executives mishandled this. She followed their playbook. She went on ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ and then apologized again on ‘The View’ the next day,” a source said.
For the record, here is a clip of the remarks that got her in trouble:
Do you think Whoopi Goldberg should be fired for her remarks?
