Democratic Party Votes to Censure Kyrsten Sinema Over Filibuster

The democrats always eat their own.

Anyone who falls even slightly out of line with their radical viewpoints gets targeted with the full force of the party.

The Arizona democratic party now has Kyrsten Sinema in their sights.

On Saturday, they voted to censure her for the high crime of refusing to support democrats’ radical “voting rights” legislation, which is actually just a way to make voter fraud easier.

Democrats are specifically mad at Sinema for trying to protect the filibuster, which one year ago, they would have have also supported.

“While we take no pleasure in this announcement, the ADP Executive Board has decided to formally censure Senator Sinema as a result of her failure to do whatever it takes to ensure the health of our democracy,” said AZ democrat Party Chair Raquel Terán.

The Washington Post broke the story:

The central committee of the Arizona Democratic Party voted on Saturday to censure Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, a symbolic rebuke that follows her decision to buck her party’s leadership on an effort to scrap the filibuster.

While the reprimand has no practical consequences, it reflects the growing estrangement between the first-term senator and her fellow Democrats, who have been angered by her willingness to help stymie the party’s agenda on issues such as the minimum wage and voting rights.

State party chair Raquel Terán said Saturday’s censure vote, which was taken behind closed doors, was a direct consequence of Sinema’s unwillingness to endorse Senate rule changes to pass voting rights legislation. The senator’s move, she said, crossed a red line at a time when voting rights are under attack.

Bernie Sanders claims that it was “absolutely” appropriate for Arizona democrats to censure Sinema.

He repeated many of the false talking points about republicans, as well as Sinema, trying to “make it harder” for people to vote.

More on Sanders’ comments from CNN:

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said Sunday it was appropriate for the Arizona Democratic Party to censure moderate Sen. Kyrsten Sinema for her vote against a filibuster carve-out for voting rights, a key priority for Democrats.

“Absolutely it was. On that particular vote that she and (West Virginia Sen. Joe) Manchin cast, we were trying to address the reality that you got 19 Republicans states all over this country who are undermining the foundations of American democracy. Trying to make it harder for people of color, young people, people with disabilities to vote,” Sanders told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union.” “It is so important that we protect American democracy, that we stand up to the big lie of Trump and his allies that he really won the election. And they undermined that effort. I think what the Arizona Democrats did was exactly right.”

Sanders repeated these talking points on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
