A 15-year-old soccer player passed away during the Copa Nacional de Futebol tournament in Goianésia.

Pedro Henrique Oliveira da Silva Souza, who played for Revelação Futebol Clube from Valparaíso de Goiás, died on Tuesday night January 11th.

Pedro Henrique Oliveira da Silva Souza died late on Tuesday night (11), according to the Goianésia city ​​hall . The boy was admitted to an Emergency Care Unit (UPA) with a low level of consciousness, severe respiratory effort and died in the unit.

“It is with deep regret that I come to communicate the death of the athlete from our little school Pedro Henrique. Who died during the National Football Cup dispute in Goianésia . We at Revelação Futebol Clube leave here our deep feelings to family and friends and we sympathize with this irreparable loss for all of us”, says the club’s note.

The UPA medical team tried to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and even intubated the patient, but he could not resist. The medical unit performed a CT scan, according to the city hall, which showed several changes. Then he went into cardiac arrest.

According to the city hall, the teenager was admitted to the health unit with a clinical picture of lowered level of consciousness, bronchospasm (airway contraction), severe respiratory effort, cyanosis (lack of oxygenation in the blood) and hematemesis (vomiting with blood).

The young man was medicated and placed on oxygen therapy, which resulted in a moderate improvement, however, he ended up evolving to a reduced level of consciousness and suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. Doctors intubated Pedro and worked on resuscitation maneuvers, but the patient did not respond and died at the health unit.

The Revelação Futebol Clube de Valparaíso de Goiás, where Pedro played, reported that the teenager had a dream of becoming a football player and that he was training to pursue a professional career. The team mourned the death of its athlete and sympathized with the family.

The tragic death at the Copa Nacional de Futebol tournament follows the collapse of São Bento Midfielder Lucas Santana at the São Paulo Football Junior Cup.
