Is The Democratic Party Falling Apart?

I recently reported that Joe Manchin is considering leaving the Democratic Party to become an independent.

This would be one of the more high profile departures from the Democratic Party, but Manchin is not alone in his supposed thinking—not by a long shot.

According to the latest reports Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-Fla.) recently announced that she will not be running for reelection.

Murphy marks the 22nd Democrat to announce that they will not be running for reelection next year and it begs the question: is the Democratic Party falling apart?

As the party moves further to the left are a growing number of representatives becoming uncomfortable with the party’s direction, tactics, and ultimate objectives?

Take a look and decide for yourself:

The Epoch Times offered this statement from Murphy:

“These last few years have been some of the most rewarding moments of my life, but also some of the most challenging.

Public service is not without personal sacrifice, and as a mom of two young children, my time away from them has been hard. For them. For me. And for our family,” Murphy said in a video announcement.

Politico viewed the departures through a leftist lens:

Murphy is the 22nd incumbent House Democrat to forgo a reelection bid next year.

The growing wave of departures comes as historical and political headwinds suggest a likely GOP midterm takeover, and as the House itself becomes a more toxic and stressful environment amid the twin calamities of Covid and the Capitol insurrection.

Murphy, a member of the high-profile investigation into those Jan. 6 riots, has faced a dramatic uptick of threats against her and her family.
