I think this is the only time in my lifetime I have seen a nursing shortage in The U.S….
Nursing is constantly in demand, and a steady stream of workers plus those who wish to take on extra hours have created a robust system in which there really have never been mass shortages in nurses—at least not that I can remember.
It’s one of the most common careers, yet New York has a massive shortage of these critical workers.
This is more than likely due to draconian vaccine mandates which were just expanded by Mayor Bill DeBlasio.
It’s unclear as to what revelation the leadership in New York needs to realize that not only are their policies ineffective, but they contribute to larger issues as well….
Issues like a nursing shortage so bad that National Guard troops are needed to step in.
Nursing home deaths which were exacerbated by the former governor of the state Andrew Cuomo have also likely been a factor affecting staff retention in long-term care facilities.
Here’s what we currently know about the critical staffing shortage in New York:

According to The Epoch Times:
The Guard will deploy some 120 Army medics and Air Force medical technicians to 12 long-term facilities and nursing homes “to ease staffing shortages,” said a news release from the National Guard.
Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, ordered the mission at the start of December and cited what she said is a seasonal rise in COVID-19 cases.
According to the Guard statement, the facilities are located “from Long Island to Buffalo and north to the Canadian border.”

Rockchester First had more on the shortage:
Because local nursing homes are low on staff, many have not accepted new residents. Leaving a lot of non-COVID elderly patients stuck in the hospital after their treatments — taking up bed space COVID patients desperately need. With help from National Guard medics, that can all change.
