REPORT: Afghan Refugee Charged With Rape in Montana

WLT presented a dire warning about the danger of resettling unvetted Afghan refugees from Biden’s exit disaster.

After reporting on an earlier incident at Fort McCoy, another story has surfaced involving an Afghan refugee.

The latest report involves an alleged rape in Missoula, Montana.

Missoula authorities arrested 19-year old Zabihullah Mohmand for the alleged rape of a female at a local motel.

Hotel staff report witnessing the female visibly upset in the lobby and followed outside by Mohmand.

911 received calls from both the victim and hotel.

The female victim reported she was raped and officers placed Mohmand under arrest for sexual intercourse without consent.

Mohmand states the two engaged in consensual sex.

An investigation is currently being conducted by Missoula Police Department Detectives.

While initial headlines stated Mohmand was visiting from Afghanistan, the 19-year old was placed in Montana by the U.S. State Department.

Mohmand was admitted into the United States and moved to Montana under humanitarian parole.

In response, Governor Gianforte (R) called for the Biden Administration to halt all refugee resettlements until he gained assurance of the vetting process.

At around 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, staff at the Residence Inn by Marriott downtown saw a young female walk through the lobby visibly upset and crying, and go outside. An employee asked the female if she needed help, but the female kept walking.

Shortly after the female exited the lobby, a male, later identified as 19-year-old Zabihullah Mohmand, followed the female outside and engaged in what the employee thought was a verbal disturbance. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.

“911 received a call from the victim and also from the local motel who wanted to report seeing some concerning behavior between a male and female,” Arnold said. “Officers were able to connect the victim with the resources in Missoula to aid the victim with immediate medical assistance, conduct a preliminary investigation, and take a preliminary statement from the victim.”

According to court documents, the female victim called 911 at around 4:30 a.m. and reported that she had just been raped. She said that Mohmand is on a worldwide trip from Afghanistan and that she had just met him at the Badlander.

The victim said Mohmand asked her to go back to his hotel room, and she agreed. When they arrived at the room, the victim said she told Mohmand that she did not want anything to happen.

Montana Talks provided Governor Gianforte’s response in a follow-up report:

Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte (R-MT) confirmed the news Thursday morning. His office sent out a statement saying that an Afghan male placed in Montana by the U.S. State Department was charged with sexual assault.

The governor issued the following statement in response:

While I welcome our fully-vetted Afghan allies to Montana, this situation and others across the country raise serious concerns about whether the Biden administration is meeting its obligations to fully vet Afghans prior to resettlement. I’m calling on President Biden to immediately halt resettlements to Montana until federal agencies provide me with adequate assurance that Afghans coming to Montana are fully-vetted in accordance with federal law.

Lawmakers criticized the Biden Administration for the resettlement of unvetted refugees.

Some called for an immediate stoppage of the resettlement of Afghan evacuees

Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., said the suspect was admitted to the United States and placed in Montana under humanitarian parole, and backed stopping resettlements.

“The fallout and consequences from President Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan continue,” he said in a statement. “While I support assisting our fully-vetted Afghan allies who served alongside our armed forces, President Biden has failed to provide answers as to who has come into the country or if they have been fully vetted according to what’s required by law. I’ve spoken to Gov. Gianforte about this situation, and I stand with him in calling on President Biden to stop all Afghan resettlements to Montana until we get answers.”

Rep. Matt Rosendale, R-Mont., who has expressed concerns about the vetting of nationals for weeks, and has introduced legislation on the matter, said the national was paroled into the country without proper screening. The Department of Homeland Security, which is overseeing Operation Allies Welcome, did not immediately return a Fox News request for comment.
