Even The Left Is Now Attacking Biden’s Infrastructure Bill

It doesn’t get much better than this…..

Leftists are now attacking Biden’s infrastructure bill because of the perceived lack of social benefits—they’re threatening to take it down because it’s not socialist enough.

I’ll agree with them on this: this bill has absolutely zero benefits to society, but for the exact opposite reasons they cite, and for the obvious reason that every rational person is thinking:

This bill has nothing to do with infrastructure.

Infrastructure would be building roads, high speed trains, defunding government education in favor of a better, more efficient money saving alternative, and maybe some mag-lev roads that fed power back into the grid through magnets.

That’s infrastructure.

Social welfare spending is the exact opposite of infrastructure, and the welfare state is the sole reason our infrastructure is outdated and crumbling right now.

Funding for the welfare state is roughly 3x greater than the military budget—how on earth are we supposed to fund anything else when we have that type of fiscal monstrosity going on?

The Hill provides some of the left-wing perspective on the bill:

The threat is the latest challenge facing Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other party leaders, who have scheduled a Thursday vote on the Senate-passed $1.2 trillion public works proposal. The timeline reflects Pelosi’s promise to moderate House Democrats, who have sought to divorce the bipartisan infrastructure bill from the larger and more divisive “family” benefits package.

But in a sign that the infrastructure bill would be doomed Thursday, progressives are sticking with their long-held insistence that Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) first commit to supporting the larger package before the liberals vote in favor of the more popular bipartisan measure. And they say they have the numbers to sink it.

National Journal commented:

Instead, Biden faces the real risk of suffering an embarrassing political defeat, failing to win enough support for both the more popular infrastructure package and the more divisive social-welfare bill.

Moderates and progressives are both making legislative demands that can’t be squared together, and Biden isn’t taking sides. A president feared by his own party would be urging lawmakers to support the infrastructure bill and daring the left-wingers to oppose him.

If the $3.5 trillion social-welfare package can’t win 50 Democratic votes in the Senate on its own, why would the administration have expected that holding the infrastructure bill hostage would lead to a better outcome?
