Do you remember the first time that President Trump called the media “fake news”?
I do.
It was during President Trump’s first press conference after being inaugurated.
He pointed at a CNN reporter and flatly said, “You are fake news.”
The media was outraged.
How could he say that?!
Well, today, we have absolute proof that the media is fake news.
If you are a Trump supporter, then you know that the media has always lied.
But this case should be able to appeal to Democrats and Independents as well.
Why?
Because this example of fake news isn’t political.
We’re simply asking you to trust your eyes.
You see, when our fallen men and women arrived from Afghanistan, Biden looked at his watch.
That’s right.
Instead of honoring the marines, he was looking at his watch and checking the time.
Don’t believe us?
Then trust your eyes.
Watch the videos below:
But it’s not just the video.
There were dozens of witnesses present.
In fact, virtually all of the gold star families reported the same thing.
They were there in person, and they accused Biden of looking at his watch.
It lines up with what we see on the video.
See what the family members of the fallen marines have to say:
Well, here’s how fake news works.
They tell you not to trust your eyes.
USA Today published a “fact check” claiming that Biden didn’t looked at his watch during the ceremony!
According to Daniel Funke, the author of the “fact check”:
New fact check: A viral photo makes it look like President Biden checked his watch during a ceremony honoring U.S. service members killed in Kabul. But that’s misleading.
“MAKES IT LOOK LIKE”?!
In other words, the media doesn’t want you to trust your own eyes.
The original USA Today article has been edited after backlash.
They added a “missing context” disclaimer to the article.
Per USA Today:
USA TODAY was unable to independently verify exactly how many times Biden looked at his watch.
When asked at an Aug. 31 briefing whether Biden checked his watch, White House press secretary Jen Psaki didn’t provide a direct answer.
“Well, I would say his message to all of the family members who were there – those who were not even in attendance – is that he is grateful to their sons and daughters, the sacrifice they made to the country; that he knows firsthand what it’s like to lose a child and the fact that no one can tell you anything or say anything — or there’s no words that are going to fill that hole that is left by that,” she said.
USA TODAY reached out to the White House and family members of the service members honored during the dignified transfer for additional comment.
Our rating: Missing context
Based on our research, we rate MISSING CONTEXT the claim that Trump saluted the caskets of fallen U.S. service members, while Biden checked his watch. The way Biden honored the 11 caskets presented at Dover Air Force Base, with a hand over his heart, was similar to how Trump paid respects to fallen service members during his presidency. However, Biden did check his watch at least three times, according to photos and video reviewed by USA TODAY. Several family members of fallen service members who attended the ceremony have criticized Biden for checking his watch.
Fortunately, some people are calling them out.
Again, even if you don’t believe that “fake news” exists, this should at least get you to question your assumption.
This appears to be a flat-out attempt to distort the truth!
Fox News confirms that USA Today has quietly edited its fact check:
USA Today was forced to issue a correction on a so-called “fact check” looking into the backlash President Biden received for looking at his watch during a dignified transfer ceremony in honor of the 13 U.S. service members who were killed in a terrorist attack outside the Kabul airport.
Daniel Funke, whose Twitter bio says he is “checking facts + covering misinfo” for USA Today, authored a fact check on Wednesday examining whether or not Biden actually kept checking the time on his wrist as the caskets of the fallen were rolled onto the tarmac at Dover Air Force Base last weekend, sparking outrage among the families who witnessed the distracted president.
“[Biden] did appear to check his watch during his visit to Dover Air Force Base. But he did so after the dignified transfer ceremony was over,” Funke wrote. “Footage leading up to the moment shows Biden with his hand over his heart for about 30 seconds as vans carry the service members’ remains off the tarmac. After the vans had left, Biden closes his eyes briefly before dropping his arms and glancing down at his watch.”
The fact check ruled the claim “partly false,” writing that the image of Biden that circulated on social media was real but that it does not “accurately summarize” what occurred.
Joey Jones slams Biden for checking watch at ceremony remembering fallen heroes
Critics blasted USA Today for suggesting that the Gold Star families who alleged they saw Biden check his watch multiple times during the dignified transfer ceremony had lied.
The next day, USA Today issued a correction.
“Corrections & Clarifications: This story was updated Sept. 2 to note that Biden checked his watch multiple times at the dignified transfer event, including during the ceremony itself,” the correction read at the top of the report on Thursday. “The rating on this claim has been changed from partly false to missing context.”
The headline also changed from “Fact check: Biden honored service members killed in Kabul, checked his watch only after ceremony” to “Fact check: Biden honored service members killed in Kabul, checked his watch during ceremony.”
What do you think?
Was this an innocent mistake by USA Today?
Or was this a deliberate attempt to mis-represent the news to protect Biden?
