Racist Sign Outside Of Popeyes Declared “This Restaurant Will Reserve The Right To Refuse Service To White People”

This is wrong on so many levels.

A sign that was posted outside of a Popeyes in St Louis Missouri stated that the restaurant has “the right to refuse service to white people.”

The sign is currently under investigation and according to authorities it is an incident of vandalism and has no connection to the staff at the Popeyes.

A press statement from the police announced that “today, unknown subjects posted an inappropriate sign on the drive-thru window, unbeknownst to the business”.

The Post Millennial had more on the story:

Police are investigating an incident at a Popeyes restaurant in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, after an alleged sign announced that the fast food restaurant reserved “the right to refuse service to white people.” Authorities report that the restaurant and its employees had nothing to do with the sign.

Popeyes customers were greeted by the sign affixed to an area in the restaurant’s drive-thru, which read: “Effective 6-1-21 This restaurant is under new management and will reserve the right to refuse service to white people. We apologize for any inconvenience. Signed, General Manager, Mason.”

The sign was shared across social media on Wednesday and has been brought to the attention of the police. The restaurant was forced to close over the outcry.
Lake Saint Louis police said authorities believe someone may have erected the sign “unbeknownst to the business” and added that the sign could be related to an act of vandalism that took place at the store earlier in May, reported KTVI-TV.

Complex covered the story too:

Police in St. Louis, Missouri are investigating a sign that was posted outside a local Popeyes drive-thru lane that refused service to white people.

Police said they’re pretty confident the sign was posted by someone who isn’t a Popeyes employee after surveillance video IDed the suspect. The sign, which made the rounds on social media in St. Charles County reads, “Effective 6-1-21, this restaurant is under new management and will reserve the right to refuse service to white people. We apologize for any inconvenience. Signed, general manager, Mason.”

“What it does is, it incites more hate,” said a local county woman who was named Karen, funnily enough. The manager of the Popeyes told News 4 that the restaurant had to close due to the backlash. Police additionally believe the sign was part of a prank, but they’re looking into a possible connection between the sign and recent vandalism at the restaurant. No arrests have been made at this time in connection with the sign.

Some users on Twitter reportedly didn’t see any problem with the sign:
