“Big Gretch Is a Homie:” Arrested Dem Warns Arresting Officers

It must be nice to be a Democrat in Michigan.

You can apparently get caught drunk, in a car crash, with your pants partially down, and still threaten the arresting officers that “Big Gretch,” Gretchen Whitmore would be upset at them for COVID violations.

Earlier this month Michigan State Rep. Jewell Jones was stopped by the police after reportedly driving his car into a ditch.

According to a Fox News report:

A Michigan state lawmaker who was arrested earlier this month following a suspected DUI crash refused to have his booking photo taken, arguing that officers weren’t following state coronavirus guidelines, video shows, according to a report.

State Rep. Jewell Jones, a Democrat who was taken into custody April 6 after crashing his SUV, warned authorities that “Big Gretch” – aka Gov. Gretchen Whitmer – would be coming after them if they didn’t allow him to wear a face mask for the photo, FOX 2 of Detroit reported.

“You know what? Big Gretch is the homie,” Jones said, according to a video obtained by FOX 2. “When she finds out about this, she might be a little upset about the treatment. She’s very serious about the pandemic so I’m just wondering if I can wear the mask.”

According to Fox 2:

Michigan State Representative Jewell Jones (D-Inkster) was found with his pants down with a woman when he was arrested three weeks ago in Livingston County, according to a report from Michigan Information & Research Service (MIRS).

The Michigan lawmaker was brought up on obstruction and weapons charges and was seen resisting arrest in dashcam footage during the traffic stop, in which he is also accused of trying to use his position as a lawmaker to get out of the arrest, saying he would call Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on them during the stop.

Jones, who represents Garden City, Inkster, and portions of Dearborn Heights, Livonia, and Westland in the state’s 11th district was brought up on felony and misdemeanor charges April 16 after he crashed his car on I-96 in Livingston County earlier this month.

They include four counts of resisting and obstructing a police officer, operating a vehicle with a high blood alcohol content and operating while intoxicated, reckless driving, and possession of a weapon while under the influence of alcohol.

Dashcam footage of Jones’ arrest revealed the final moments when paramedics were loading an individual into an ambulance while Jones spoke with emergency response workers and deputies. The police report also said Jones had interfered with emergency crews as they were securing the intoxicated woman in the ambulance.

The Detroit News reports more of his vile rhetoric:

“I don’t give a f— bro, when I call Gretchen ill (sic) need yall (sic) ID’s badge numbers everything,” state Rep. Jewell Jones said, according to the report, which The Detroit News obtained Wednesday.

He also said: “It’s not going to be good for you, I run y’all budget, bro,” according to a trooper on the scene.

Bearing a license plate with “ELECTED” written across it,Jones’ black Chevy Tahoe drifted erratically in and out of lanes and rumble strips along Interstate 96 on April 6 before he pulled off onto the shoulder and rolled into the ditch, according to the MSP report from his arrest.

Two troopers arriving at the scene of the crash said the 26-year-old Inkster Democrat was combative and attempted to flash a badge at police instead of his identification.

Eventually, Jones was taken to the ground, and a stun gun was used twice and then pepper spray as officers attempted to get him into handcuffs, the report said.

When elected leaders, play the race card and show such a lack of respect for the police even when they are clearly guilty, is it any wonder that violent encounters with the police only seem to be increasing?

Now, the lawyer for Rep. Jewell is alleging “excessive use of force” by the police.

Is anyone surprised?

The Detroit Free Press reports:

 An attorney for state Rep. Jewell Jones denies the lawmaker was in a car accident prior to his April 6 arrest on charges of drunken and reckless driving and resisting police, and says Michigan State Police troopers used excessive force on him.

… Police say they twice used a Taser on Jones, 26, and also gave him a burst of pepper spray in his eyes during a struggle at the side of Interstate 96 in Livingston County.

According to the report, troopers twice during the struggle deployed a Taser — using “stun” mode — toward Jones’ upper left shoulder area, but Jones still would not comply and allow officers to place handcuffs on him.

Tasers have two modes: The “stun” mode delivers a powerful shock but does not fire barbed darts, as the other, more debilitating mode, does. After warning Jones, a trooper than gave Jones a burst of pepper spray to his eyes, the report said. A third officer then arrived and Jones was handcuffed, according to the report.

“I clearly think it’s an excessive use of force by the police,” said Hammoud.

If this was back in “normal” times, I would say that with all the video evidence Rep. Jewell doesn’t have a chance of getting off without some kind of sentence.

But this is now.

And he’s alleging police brutality.

And, as he said, “Big Gretch is a homie.”

So if you’re driving on the streets of Michigan be on the lookout for Mr. Jewell’s car.

Because I’d be surprised if he ever sees the inside of a jail cell.
