AOC says Infrastructure Bill Is Not Enough: Pushes The Green New Deal, Again

Moderate Democrats (if there is such a thing) might have been dancing around the words “Green New Deal”when it came to Biden’s new infrastructure bill but AOC? Well, until a couple of weeks ago she was just dancing about it.

According to a piece in the Wall Street Journal, posted a little over a week ago, the loquacious Congresswoman from the Bronx had this to say about the bill:

“As much as I think some parts of the party try to avoid saying ‘Green New Deal’ and really dance around and try to not use that term, ultimately, the framework I think has been adopted.

Even Mother Jones agreed. The far-left hate site had this to say about the bill.

Yes, the $2 trillion proposal President Joe Biden is unveiling Wednesday would fix roads, transit stations, and bridges. But to simply call it an infrastructure plan understates its ambitions. It’s the closest we’ve come to a realization of the Green New Deal, an ambitious collection of progressive proposals to combat climate change, racial injustice, and gender inequality as much as one to upgrade asphalt.

Let me just reiterate that last part. Mother Jones called Biden’s infrastructure, “an ambitious collection of progressive proposals to combat climate change, racial injustice, and gender inequality.”

When Mother Jones calls your plan “ambitious”, you pretty much know you’ve long passed “centrist,” crossed over “leftist,” and are on the choo-choo to Loonyville.

But apparently, this week Ms. Cortez and others decided that 2 trillion in spending on Leftist wishlists was not nearly enough.

According to our friends at Fox News:

Members of the progressive “Squad” rallied around a new push for the “Green New Deal” on Tuesday with separate bills for public housing, a civilian climate corps and funding for cities.

“For so long, our movement toward a sustainable future has been divided with really just this false notion that we have to choose between our planet and our economy,” said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. at a press conference in D.C.

“And we decided to come together in sweeping legislation that not only rejects that notion, but creates a plan for 20 million union jobs in the United States of America to rebuild our infrastructure, to restore public housing, to make sure that we expand our access not only to EV [electric vehicles] and EV infrastructure, but mass transit.”

The economy is just starting to recover from needlessly restrictive policies and lockdowns. Restaurants are still dealing with trying to keep afloat with limited capacity COVID seating. Businesses are trying to get back to normal after the burning and looting over the summer.

But obviously, what we all need right now is electric vehicles.

How did we not realize that owning a Tesla was the answer to all the American woes?

Senator Ed Markey (who introduced the resolution with her) said he wants to see Biden go further than what he has already proposed on climate action.

According to Bloomberg Green, Markey said:

“We are going to be calling for the highest aspirations that our country can reach,” the Massachusetts Democrat said. “We want to go big. Even bigger.

Whether or not this (new) Green New Deal passes, it just demonstrates the tone-deafness of those in Congress committed to far-left policies that help no one, especially at a time like this.

The world may not end in 12 years (or is it 10 now?) as AOC predicted, but for many people, it feels like it’s ending right now.

No matter what your politics are, I think we can all agree that what’s on people’s minds right now is getting back to their jobs, their schools, and their lives, not electric vehicles and radical gender equality laws.

One of the definitions of the word “sustainable” is: able to be upheld or defended.

What we need right now is the ability to sustain our livelihoods, our families, and the moral fabric of this country.

Not some fantastical ever-evolving ideals of politicians pandering to a mob of “woke” children and their twisted ideas of climate, justice, and morality.
