List of Congressional Democrats Boycotting The State of the Union Grows To Ten

It started earlier today with three, then grew to four, and now it appears to be up to EIGHT Democrats in Congress who are reportedly skipping the State of the Union in some kind of protest.

You know, kind of like when you lose and take your ball and go home and refuse to play with the other kids?

Yeah, just like that.

The more the merrier I say….let these losers stay home!

The SOTU is for winners and true Americans.

Keep on staying home Dems, and America might just find out they don’t need you at all!

According to the USA Today, here's the current list of nine staying home:

Besides Ocasio-Cortez, others who announced they would not attend include Reps. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Al Green of Texas, Steve Cohen of Tennessee, Earl Blumenauer of Oregon, Hank Johnson of Georgia, Maxine Waters of California, Bobby Rush of Illinois and Frederica Wilson of Florida.

AOC's statement:

The Hill reports it is actually 10 now:

At least 10 House Democrats are boycotting President Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday night on the eve of the expected Senate vote to acquit him in his impeachment trial.

Most of the 10 Democrats — Reps. Al Green (Texas), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Ayanna Pressley (Mass.), Maxine Waters(Calif.), Bennie Thompson (Miss.), Bobby Rush (Ill.), Steve Cohen (Tenn.), Earl Blumenauer (Ore.), Hank Johnson (Ga.) and Frederica Wilson (Fla.) — have also opted against attending Trump's past annual addresses to Congress in recent years as an expression of protest against his presidency.

Ocasio-Cortez and Pressley, who have been targets of Trump over the last year, both announced Tuesday that they will not be in the House chamber for the address.

Both attended Trump's State of the Union last year about a month after they first took office.

"After much deliberation, I have decided that I will not use my presence at a state ceremony to normalize Trump’s lawless conduct & subversion of the Constitution," Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a series of tweets. "None of this is normal, and I will not legitimize it."

WASHINGTON – Today, following her decision to boycott the State of the Union address, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) issued the following statement:

“The occupant of the White House incessantly stokes fear in people of color, women, healthcare providers, LGBTQ+ communities, low-income families, and many more. He does not embody the principles, the responsibility, the grace, nor the integrity that is required of the President of the United States.

“The State of the Union is hurting because of the occupant of the White House, who consistently demonstrates contempt for the American people, contempt for Congress, and contempt for our constitution - strong-arming a sham impeachment trial in the Senate. This presidency is not legitimate.

“On the eve of Senate Republicans covering up transgressions and spreading misinformation, I cannot in good conscience attend a sham State of the Union when I have seen firsthand the damage Donald J. Trump’s rhetoric and policies have inflicted on those I love and those I represent.”
