A common trick of “push” polling in the Trump era is to give survey-takers more alternatives to choose from.
Since 30% to 40% of the public identifies as liberal-leaning and has been taught by Fake News to hate the President’s every pore, they can be counted on to blame Trump for any problems.
Those who do not suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome are likely to be free-minded, and thoughtfully pick one of the other “boxes.” That means that “Trump Bad” is always going to look like the most popular choice.
But even that ol’ trick couldn’t save CNN on Friday, when it released poll numbers on the upcoming government shutdown.
Despite offering random Americans (or a majority of Democrats, since CNN itself ran the survey) 5 – count ’em – 5 choices, “Blame Trump” only came in 21%.
“Blame the Democrats” won (or lost) the poll with 31% of Americans blaming them directly!
An excerpt from the somber report:
The plurality of Americans would blame Democrats if the government is shut down Friday night, according to the results of a new poll.
Key results from the CNN poll:
31 percent said Democrats in Congress would be to blame for a shutdown.
26 percent said Republicans in Congress would be to blame.
21 percent said President Donald Trump would be to blame.
10 percent said all politicians would be to blame.
56 percent said avoiding a government shutdown is more important than coming to a solution on the DACA issue. 34 percent said the opposite.
Lawmakers in the Senate must come to an agreement to keep the government funded before midnight Saturday. If no agreement is struck, the government will shut down.
Gee. That’s a pretty dry report. CNN doesn’t seem to be in a lively mood today.
You wouldn’t be either, if your latest anti-Trump narrative just collapsed and you have to go back to talking about Russia all weekend.
