Military Member Found Dead in Vehicle Parked Outside of Pentagon

A military service member was found dead in a vehicle parked outside of the Pentagon Tuesday afternoon, a Defense Department spokesperson said.

Pentagon police officers reportedly found the deceased individual in the parking lot at approximately 3:30pm.

“At approximately 3:30 p.m. EDT today the Pentagon Operations Center received a call requesting a welfare check on a military service member,” said Pentagon press secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder.

There is currently an ongoing investigation.

Pentagon officials did not disclose additional details about the individual’s identity or cause of death.

Fox News reported:

Ryder said Pentagon police officers responded to the North Parking, where they discovered the service member in his vehicle apparently deceased.

Arlington County Emergency Medical Services also responded and confirmed the individual was deceased, according to the spokesperson.

No additional details on the individual’s identity or cause of death were provided.

Military Times added:

The service member’s command is expected to release his identity 24 hours after next-of-kin has been notified of the death, Pentagon spokesman Sue Gough told Military Times on Wednesday.
