A U-Haul truck struck multiple pedestrians Monday morning at multiple locations in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn, New York.

Police ordered individuals to stay away from the U-Haul due to “possible devices inside.”

The incident is being investigated as possible ‘terrorism’ and bomb squad units were called to the scene.

Reports indicate multiple people sustained injuries from the incident.

The suspect is reportedly in police custody.

“A man driving a U-Haul went on a rampage in Bay Ridge. He was just apprehended in Sunset Park. Several people were hit and badly injured. We have no idea of motives at this time but this wasn’t an accident,” said New York City Councilman Justin Brannan.

Gothamist reported:

A U-Haul driver is in custody after striking multiple people in Brooklyn on Monday morning, according to police and an elected official.

The driver injured multiple pedestrians in Bay Ridge, according to Councilmember Justin Brannan, who described the incident as a “rampage.”

A spokesperson for the FDNY said at least four pedestrians were injured at multiple points along Bay Ridge Parkway and Fort Hamilton Parkway shortly after 10:30 a.m. Information on the extent of their injuries was not immediately available.

An NYPD spokesperson confirmed that a person of interest in the incident was taken into custody near Columbia and Hamilton in Red Hook. The driver was arrested after attempting to evade police, according to the spokesperson.

ABC News added:

It’s believed the truck hit the victims after driving away from an attempted stop by police in Brooklyn’s Bay Ridge neighborhood, sources said.

The driver allegedly screamed that he wanted to die as he sped off and led police on a brief chase, according to a law enforcement official and a local councilman.

He allegedly fled from Bay Ridge through Sunset Park before being apprehended a few miles away in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Red Hook, sources said.

Police searched the truck and found nothing suspicious, sources said.

There are no additional credible threats, according to the New York City mayor’s office.
