Welcome to the ‘People’s Republic of Astoria!’

That’s the name far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) gave the Queens, New York neighborhood, according to reports.

AOC made the sly Communist China reference in a speech during the inauguration of fellow far-left politician State Senator Kristen Gonzalez.

New York’s Next AOC? Democrat Primary Winner: “Today We Proved That Socialism Wins!”

The CCP's official name is the 'People's Republic of China.'

Perhaps AOC was bragging about bringing socialism to the United States?

“Kristen is like the last Infinity Stone to the People’s Republic of Astoria. With her election, we now have DSA members elected to every level of government [representing Astoria, Queens,] AOC said.

Daily Mail reported:

She is heard calling Astoria, a predominantly liberal leaning neighborhood according to voting results, as the 'People's Republic of Astoria' in the speech and refers to a plot line from 'The Avengers' Marvel series.

'Kristen now stands with us as the youngest woman ever elected to the New York state,' AOC is heard saying in the 36 second video posted to New York City's Democratic Socialists of America Twitter.

Not everyone applauded AOC for her statements comparing Astoria, Queens to an authoritative regime that abuses its citizens.

Ari Kagan, a NYC Councilman who grew up in a communist regime, criticized her comments.

From the New York Post:

Brooklyn Councilman Ari Kagan, who grew up in Belarus under Soviet Union rule, ripped AOC and her socialist allies, who he said, “adore failed communist ideas that so many people ran away from.”

“Her statement is an insult not just to Chinese Americans who left the communist People’s Republic for a chance to live in a free Democratic society — but to all Americans,” he said. “The last thing we need here is to recreate the system where government stifles the market economy, exchange of ideas, free press and independent courts.”

Others warned the neighborhood is doomed should socialism take hold.

“RIP Astoria, Queens,” tweeted David Grezelcki in response to a post cheering the comments by the New York City Democratic Socialists of America.
