JUST IN: House Adjourns Until 10 PM, McCarthy ‘Confident’ as He Gains Votes From GOP Holdouts

The House has adjourned until 10 p.m. eastern time.

After losing the 13th House Speaker vote, McCarthy told reporters “We’re going to win.”

When asked how he knows that, McCarthy responded, “Because I count.”

“McCarthy just told me he has the votes to be elected speaker tonight,” CNN Correspondent Manu Raju tweeted.

The latest reports suggest the drama in the House of Representatives could end Friday evening.

Although McCarthy lost the 12th round of voting, he picked up more votes from Republican holdouts.

McCarthy would also lose the 13th round of voting.

However, Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD), who voted against McCarthy in the 12th vote, voted for McCarthy in the 13th vote.

After the 13th ballot, McCarthy had 214 votes, Democrat Hakeem Jeffries had 212 votes, and Jim Jordan had six votes.

McCarthy has flipped 15 of the GOP holdouts after the 13th vote.

He would need to flip at least three of the remaining six holdouts to secure House Speaker.

A 14th vote is expected Friday evening.
