On Wednesday, an internal source reportedly said a “significant discrepancy” in a rural Arizona county favored Republican Arizona Attorney General candidate Abe Hamadeh in the race’s recount.

According to Garrett Archer, ABC 15 Arizona’s ‘Data Guru,’ Democrat Kris Mayes gained 196 votes and Abe Hamadeh gained 427 votes.

After the recount, Hamadeh still trailed Mayes by 280 votes.

Attorney General-elect Kris Mayes retained her lead over Abe Hamadeh in a recount in one of the tightest races ever in Arizona history, but her winning margin narrowed significantly in results announced Thursday morning.

Mayes was certified the winner with 280 more votes than Hamadeh, but an attorney for the defeated candidate said they were weighing legal options.

"I will say once again that I’m thankful to everyone who took their time to vote, and democracy is truly a team sport. I’m thankful for my campaign, transition and legal teams. I’m excited and ready to get to work as your next Attorney General and vow to be your Lawyer for the People. Onward...," Mayes said in a written statement.

"The results of the recount show that my opponent’s lead has been cut by nearly half from 511 to 280 votes. A shockingly high discrepancy. Again, a recount just puts the ballots in the machine again," Hamadeh tweeted.

"My legal team will be assessing our options to make sure every vote is counted."
