Constitutional Attorney Jonathan Turley: J6 Referral Against President Trump Not “Credible Criminal Case”

In the latest round of the ongoing witch hunt against President Trump, the January 6th Committee is recommending criminal charges against the 45th President.

The sham, highly partisan, political theater displayed by the January 6th Committee should have them in line to win academy awards for best actors.

President Trump urged people to stay peaceful that day, he urged officials to approve the reinforcement of 20,000 national guard troops in the Capitol—a request that was denied by Nancy Pelosi.

There are both public and private records of this…

Constitutional attorney Jonathan Turley is claiming that the January 6th Committee’s criminal referral against President Trump is weak and not a credible criminal case.

Those reading this know that, as evidenced by the facts and reports I previously mentioned—Pelosi should be on trial here, not Donald J. Trump.

President Trump responded to the January 6th Committee’s referral with a torrent of messages on Truth Social:

Jonathan Turley explained:

The fact is that the J6 Committee failed to change many minds largely because of what was on display in the final public meeting.

It was the same highly scripted, one-sided account repeated mantra-like for months. There is justifiable anger over these accounts, but this hearing was billed as presenting the case for criminal charges. It missed that mark by a considerable measure.

Repetition of the same earlier points does little to strengthen the case for prosecution. The Committee has presented a powerful record of Trump’s failures on that day, including his reckless rhetoric and lack of response.

Trump may be guilty of all of these failings, but that does not mean that he is a criminal actor.

Despite the weak show of evidence, the J6 Committee still recommended criminal charges against President Trump, according to The Epoch Times:

Members of the select committee to investigate the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol cast votes for the four referrals during a hearing in Washington.

They unanimously voted to refer insurrection, obstruction of an official proceeding, making a false statement to the federal government, and conspiracy to defraud the federal government to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), where prosecutors will ultimately determine whether to act on the recommendations.

“Accountability … can only be found in the criminal justice system.

We have every confidence that the work of this committee will help provide a roadmap to justice and that the agencies and the institutions responsible for ensuring justice under the law will use the information that we provided to aid in their work,” said Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), chairman of the panel.
