After the Republicans finally took back the majority of the House, questions have swirled about whether Rep. Nancy Pelosi will return or not.

The current House Speaker that is soon to be replaced by Republican Kevin McCarthy, will address her future in an emergency meeting later on today.

Per Fox News “Speaker Pelosi has been overwhelmed by calls from colleagues, friends, and supporters,”.

It appears Pelosi would retire because she can’t stand playing second fiddle.

Fox News shared these details:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is “overwhelmed” by the reactions she has received from her colleagues since it was announced that Democrats will lose the majority in the House of Representatives to Republicans, her spokesperson said.

“Speaker Pelosi has been overwhelmed by calls from colleagues, friends and supporters,” said Deputy Chief of Staff Drew Hammill, hours after the 218th race was called for Republicans.

With Republicans winning a majority in the House, they now have an opportunity to elect their own leaders, including the Speakership, and will have full control over dictating the legislative agenda for two years.

The GOP will also be able to launch various investigations, which could potentially include looking into Hunter Biden, the Jan. 6 Committee and aspects of the Biden administration.

As for Pelosi, who will be without the speakership when new members participate in the swearing-in ceremony in January 2023, Hammill said she will address her future plans on Thursday.

“The Speaker plans to address her future plans tomorrow to her colleagues. Stay tuned,” he wrote.

USA Today added these details:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is poised to announce Thursday what her future will look like, a day after Republicans claimed a majority in the House in the next congressional term.

Her decision to either seek another term as the Democratic leader or to step aside has been widely anticipated. It comes after her party was able to halt an expected Republican wave in the House and Senate in midterm elections, but also in the aftermath of a brutal attack on her husband, Paul, last month in their San Francisco home.

“The Speaker plans to address her future plans tomorrow to her colleagues. Stay tuned,” Pelosi’s spokesperson Drew Hammill tweeted late Wednesday.

The speaker “has been overwhelmed by calls from colleagues, friends and supporters,” Hammill said, and noted that she had spent Wednesday evening monitoring election returns in the final states where ballots were still being counted.
