Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont was hospitalized Thursday evening “as a precaution” after “not feeling well,” his office said in a statement.
Leahy, 82, had been at his residence in McLean, Virginia, before going to a Washington area hospital where, “At the recommendation of his doctors, he is expected to remain overnight for observation,” the statement said.
The Vermont Democrat is the Senate president pro tempore, therefore he’s currently third in the line of presidential succession, following the vice president and speaker of the House.
Leahy was elected to the United States senate in 1974.
He’s the third longest serving senator in US history.

Fox News reported:
Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., was taken to a hospital in Washington, D.C., for tests and will be hospitalized overnight “as a precaution,” his office said Thursday evening.
The 82-year-old senator was not feeling well at his residence in McLean, Virginia, late on Thursday.
He’ll remain hospitalized for observation overnight.
Leahy, the longest-serving member of the U.S. Senate, announced last year that he will retire at the end of his term.
No further details were released on the senator’s condition.
The statement said his office would release updates as they became available.
The Gateway Pundit noted:
Recall, Leahy was taken to the hospital last year after presiding over the opening of the sham impeachment trial against Donald Trump.
Leahy presided over the sham impeachment trial since Chief Justice John Roberts opted out.
The corrupt Vermont senator last year announced he would not be seeking reelection in 2022 after holding the seat for 8 terms.
“It is time to pass the torch to the next Vermonter who will carry on this work for our great state. It’s time to come home,” Leahy said.
