President Trump Clarifies Stance On Abortion

The overturn of Roe v Wade sent shockwaves throughout the country.

Leftists had aneurysms in the street and everyone on the right celebrated the historic decision— a historic decision that was only made possible by the makeup of the court.

Liberals and Democrats were correct in pointing out that President Trump was essentially the reason for the overturn of Roe v Wade—he was instrumental in constructing a conservative majority Supreme Court.

In the wake of overturning nationwide, unfettered access to abortion, many in the nation are asking: where do we go from here?

More specifically, what is the GOP’s position on abortion? Are there any exceptions?

President Trump took a surprisingly liberal stance on abortion by saying that he is in favor of a 16-week limit on abortion but also voiced support for exceptions which hearken back to the Reagan era.

He also urged the GOP to clarify their stance on the issue by explicitly taking these exceptions into account.

This contrasts the position of other leading GOP figures—will this be the issue that defines who the Republican front-runner in 2024 will be?

According to The Epoch Times:

“The problem is a lot of people aren’t explaining it well, and I think having the exceptions is a very important thing,” he said. Trump called Democrats the “radical ones” with regard to the abortion issue.

While only 10 percent of Republicans saw abortion as a top issue, 35 percent of Democrats saw it as the biggest issue.

Among independents, who are critical in swing districts and states, abortion was the key issue among 22 percent of respondents.

“As most people know, and for those who would like to know, I am strongly Pro-Life, with the three exceptions – Rape, Incest and protecting the Life of the mother – the same position taken by Ronald Reagan,” Trump wrote.
