Charlie Crist won the Democratic primary for Florida governor Tuesday night.
The congressman and former Florida governor cruised to a landslide victory against state Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried.
Crist had 59.2% of the vote to Fried’s 35.4% at 8:12 p.m. ET, with 90% of the vote in, according to NBC News.
However, Crist faces an uphill battle against Gov. Ron DeSantis in November.
Crist didn’t help his chances this week by making multiple befuddling comments to the media.
He told reporters “those who support DeSantis should stay with him and vote for him and I don’t want your vote. If you have that hate in your heart, keep it there.”

Fox News noted the response from Gov. DeSantis:
On “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” DeSantis called Crist’s criticism of Floridian civilians “contemptible” and labeled him a political “chameleon” who has sought or been in public office most of his life.
“This is his fifth decade running for office. He’s a typical career politician,” DeSantis told host Tucker Carlson. “People support me because I kept the state open and protected their jobs. Charlie Crist wanted it locked down. So that’s not hate in their heart. They’re just appreciative that they had a governor who was standing up for them.”
During the remarks in which he criticized DeSantis voters, the Daytona Beach NBC affiliate quoted Crist as comparing himself to Abraham Lincoln when asked why he chose a restaurant as his first campaign stop.
“I am of the people, by the people and for the people. And so that’s why I’m here with them: To learn, to listen, to love,” Crist said in part.
Crist then went on an absolute delusional rant about how fantastic Biden was for Americans.

Crist, a former Republican who has represented Florida’s 13th Congressional District as a Democrat in the House since 2017, said he would “absolutely” welcome Biden to campaign with him in Florida and insisted that Biden is the reason “gas prices are down.”
“Look at what he’s – President Biden – done for our country. He’s been exceptional,” Crist told host Kaitlan Collins. “Look what he’s done for the world… what’s happening in Ukraine, him bringing NATO together, new members to NATO – Finland, Sweden. It’s remarkable.”
“What other president could’ve done what he’s done? He’s been phenomenal,” Crist added. “Gas prices are down. Inflation is trending down. Democracy is trending up.”
Expressing his eagerness to earn the backing of Biden, Crist, who defeated his primary challenger Nikki Fried in Tuesday’s primary election in the state, said he is “running against a guy who’s against democracy” and “doesn’t support African Americans and their right to vote.”
