The story of the 10-year-old rape victim who reportedly traveled from Ohio to Indiana to obtain an abortion has taken a bizarre twist.
After the story’s legitimacy was questioned due to lack of evidence, authorities identified and charged a suspect.
Gerson Fuentes, 27, a supposed illegal immigrant from Guatemala, was arrested and charged with the girl’s rape.
He reportedly confessed to raping the child on at least two occasions and is being held on $2 million in bond.
However, there’s more questions about the validity of the story following a Telemundo report from María Vargas-Pion.
She visited the Columbus residence where the 10-year-old rape victim and her mother allegedly live on Wednesday.
A woman who claims to be the girl’s mother remained hidden behind her front door and defended the girl’s rapist.
She said everything they’re saying about him (Fuentes) is a lie.

“Did the girl live here as well?” Vargas-Pion asked.
The woman, who spoke in Spanish, replied: “Yes, but she’s fine.”
She then said, “Everything that they’re saying against him is a lie.”
“And the child – are you related to her or her mother?” Vargas-Pion asked her.
“She’s my daughter,” the mother answered.
Despite Fuentes confessing to raping the 10-year-old girl, the woman told Vargas-Pion that she had not filed charges against him.
Detective Jeffrey Huhn testified Wednesday morning at Fuentes’ arraignment, according to a report from The Columbus Dispatch.
“On June 30, the girl underwent a medical abortion in Indianapolis, Huhn said.”
Huhn also testified that DNA evidence from the abortion clinic in Indianapolis would be compared to samples taken from Fuentes.
Journalist Jorge Bonilla explained that the mother’s defense of the rapist could be due to the family’s immigration status or the alleged rapist being the family’s sole income earner.
He said other children could be in the home, and the mother fears the removal of her children.
Bonilla also asked an extremely important question.
“Was criminal reporting of the rape of a Latina girl suppressed or delayed in furtherance of a political agenda?” he asked.
This appears to confirm my thesis of a domestic situation wherein the confessed rapist is also the paramour of the victim's mother (other familial relation is possible but less likely). Unfortunately, I saw many such cases while working as a court interpreter.
