Brittney Griner Pleads with Joe Biden: “Please Don’t Forget About Me”

WNBA star Brittney Griner has been detained in a Russian prison for more than four months now.

Griner recently penned an open letter to Joe Biden, pleading for his help.

“Please don’t forget about me and the other American detainees,” Griner said in the letter.

Griner says that she fears that she may never return home.

The letter was delivered on Monday according to Griner’s agent.

Griner has been detained in Russia since February on drug charges according to Russian officials.

Many are critical of Biden’s lack of action over the situation, especially when compared to president Donald Trump’s threat to launch a trade war with Sweden over their imprisonment of rapper A$AP Rocky.

The Associated Press shared details on Griner’s letter to Biden:

Brittney Griner has made an appeal to President Joe Biden in a letter passed to the White House through her representatives saying she feared she might never return home and asking that he not “ forget about me and the other American Detainees.”

Griner’s agent Lindsay Kagawa Colas said the letter was delivered on Monday. Most of the letter’s contents to President Biden remain private, though Griner’s representatives shared a few lines from the hand-written note.

″…As I sit here in a Russian prison, alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any accomplishments, I’m terrified I might be here forever,” Griner wrote.

“On the 4th of July, our family normally honors the service of those who fought for our freedom, including my father who is a Vietnam War Veteran,” the Phoenix Mercury center added. “It hurts thinking about how I usually celebrate this day because freedom means something completely different to me this year.”

The BBC provided more details:

Brittney Griner, the American basketball superstar detained in Russia, has written to US President Joe Biden pleading for help.

Ms Griner has been held for over four months on what Russia says are drug charges.

In the letter, which arrived on Monday, she wrote about her fear that she might never return to US soil.

Government officials confirmed they received communication from the Phoenix Mercury player.

“President Biden has been clear about the need to see all US nationals who are held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad released, including Brittney Griner,” said a spokeswoman from the National Security Council on Monday.

NATIONAL POLL: Do You Still Have Trump's Back 100%?

One has to wonder if Joe Biden is really even paying attention.

As many have pointed out, President Donald Trump was willing to begin a trade war with Sweden over the release of rapper A$AP Rocky from a Swedish jail back in 2019.
