If the GOP wins a majority in the House, a handful of Republicans expected to get committee chairmanships are reportedly planning several high-profile oversight hearings.
Dr. Anthony Fraudci will be under the microscope for one planned investigation that will focus on the cause of COVID-19 and the government’s handling of the outbreak.
“Fauci will have his own parking space at the Capitol,” said one top Republican member.
Other planned investigations include the FBI’s handling of the 2017 shooting of Republican lawmakers practicing for the annual baseball game and Joe Biden’s opening of the U.S.-Mexican border.

I'll believe it when I see it. GOPe leadership is notoriously big talkers with little to no action. McCarthy and McConnell are political worms.https://t.co/PENCWr85k0

Further details from the Washington Examiner:
- It won’t be a filibuster-proof majority, but Republican congressional leaders are hoping the midterm elections will give the GOP one to three more seats in the Senate. In the House, the GOP needs only to flip four seats, and they are hoping for 30.
- At the end of August, Republicans will be presenting their “Commitment to America,” listing election and governing priorities. Topping the list will be beating inflation, fighting crime, and cutting gas prices.
- Democrats are pushing Biden to announce his reelection plans right after the midterm elections in November. Their goal is both to quiet party grumbling about his poor polling and put potential challengers on notice.
