Canadian singer Justin Bieber disclosed that he is suffering from facial paralysis caused by Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.

The 28-year-old asked his fans to “please pray for me.”

“As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move,” Bieber said in a video posted to Instagram.

“So for those who are frustrated by my cancellations of the next shows, I’m just physically, obviously, not capable of doing them,” he said.

“This is pretty serious, as you can see. I wish this wasn’t the case. But obviously my body’s telling me I got to slow down.”

“Ramsay Hunt syndrome occurs when a shingles outbreak affects the facial nerve near one of your ears, according to Mayo Clinic. It can cause painful shingles rash, facial paralysis and hearing loss in the affected ear.” KTLA reported.

Bieber canceled the rest of his world tour, according to media reports.

Daily Mail reported:

‘Obviously as you can probably see with my face. I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome and it is from this virus that attacks the nerves in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis.’

Justin later updated posted a sad update on his Instagram Story as he wrote: ‘Been getting progressively harder to eat which has been extremely frustrating, please pray for me [tearing up emoji]’

On Tuesday, the artist had announced that he was postponing the ‘next few shows’ of his seven-leg, 130-date Justice World Tour due ‘non-Covid related illness.’

‘Can’t believe I’m saying this. I’ve done everything to get better but my sickness is getting worse,’ the 28-year-old pop star – who boasts 539.2M social media followers – wrote.

‘My heart breaks that I will have to postpone these next few shows (doctors orders). To all my people I love you so much and I’m gonna rest and get better.’

There is speculation that Bieber’s facial paralysis is a side effect of the experimental COVID-19 shot.

While we cannot confirm if the singer received the injection, the NIH posted this case study on Ramsey Hunt Syndrome following the COVID-19 shot.

From the NIH:

Ramsay-Hunt syndrome typically manifests with a vesicular rash on the concha and external auditory canal associated with peripheral facial paralysis. This is caused by reactivation of latent varicella-zoster virus within the geniculate ganglion, in association with factors that influence immunosuppression, including immunosenescence.

We recently assessed a female patient at our centre who exhibited symptoms consistent with Ramsay-Hunt syndrome following administration of the COVID-19 vaccine. At the time of writing, we are not aware of any other published cases of a similar nature, just herpes zoster reactivation in other locations1, 2, 3 and Bell’s palsy4, 5, which is why we wanted to warn of this possibility.

Bieber’s wife, Hailey, suffered a blood clot in her brain earlier this year that caused ‘stroke-like symptoms.’
