Biden Sends Elementary Message To North Korea Leader Kim Jong Un

While visiting Asia, Biden had a very child-like message for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

While having a brief stop in Seoul, South Korea, Biden was asked by reporters if he had a message to Kim Jong Un to which Biden responded by saying “Hello. Period.”.

Biden’s elementary-like comments come just 24 hours after, he stated he would consider meeting up with Kim Jong Un if invited.

President Trump previously was the first U.S. President to ever step foot in North Korea and meet with Kim Jong Un but at the time Biden, Obama, and the Clinton’s condemned him for doing it.

The Hill had these details to add:

President Biden, who is on a multiday trip to Asia, had a brief message for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Sunday.

Asked during a stop in Seoul if Biden has a message for Kim while in the region, the president responded, “Hello. Period.”

The comment comes one day after Biden said he would consider meeting with the North Korean leader if he was “sincere” and “serious” about discussions regarding Pyongyang’s nuclear program. North Korea’s nuclear arsenal has been the focus of heightened tensions between the country and the U.S.

It is not customary for U.S. presidents to meet with the leader of North Korea, but former President Trump generated headlines during his time in office for meeting with Kim three times. During one encounter, Trump stepped into North Korea.

The U.S.’s talks with North Korea during the Trump presidency regarding the North’s nuclear program, however, were not successful.

Now, the Biden administration is preparing for North Korea to potentially launch a ballistic missile or nuclear test while Biden is traveling through Asia. White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan last week said such an instance was a “genuine possibility” during or in close proximity to Biden’s trip.

North Korea has launched a number of ballistic missile tests this year, but it has not conducted a nuclear test since 2017.

Reuters had these details to add:

U.S. President Joe Biden, in Seoul before heading to Japan as part of his first Asia trip as president, had a simple message for North Korea’s Kim Jong Un: “Hello… period,” he told reporters on the last day of his visit to South Korea on Sunday.

Biden said he was “not concerned” about new North Korean nuclear tests, which would be the first in nearly five years.

But his wry response when asked what message he had for Kim underscored the administration’s low-key approach to the unresolved tensions with North Korea. It is a stark contrast with former President Donald Trump’s showy threats, summits, and “love letters” with Kim.

Biden without using a teleprompter communication skills is on the same level as an elementary student.
