From WFLA:

Officials said the plane crashed head-on with another vehicle that was driving on the Haulover Inlet Bridge that connects Haulover Beach to Bal Harbour. Authorities said a woman and two toddlers were in the vehicle but did not suffer injuries.

The body of one person, who authorities have yet to identify, was found in the plane after first responders arrived.

Authorities said they are working to identify two other individuals who were also onboard the plane at the time of the crash.

According to a news release from the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, Narciso Torres, a veteran Miami Airport Traffic Control Tower controller died in the crash.

“This is a terrible tragedy that has sent shock waves throughout our NATCA family,” NATCA President Rich Santa said in the release. “Narciso touched so many people with his warmth and kindness, both within NATCA, in the facilities he worked, and in every interaction he had.”

Torres began his FAA career in 2008 at Orlando International ATCT, transferred to New York Terminal Radar Approach Control in 2010, and returned to MCO in 2011, the release added.

“Like so many thousands of our members, Narciso had such a deep love of all things aviation, and of flying, as evidenced by this flight on a beautiful South Florida day where he was doing what he loved,” Santa said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Another tragedy was narrowly avoided in Florida days ago when a passenger with no flying experience landed a small plane after his pilot had a medical emergency.
