‘We’re Going to Shut It Down’: Sen. Paul Vows to Dismantle Biden’s ‘Disinformation Board’

The Biden administration has received severe criticism in recent days for its decision to launch a panel designed to combat so-called disinformation.

Using the resources of the Department of Homeland Security, the Disinformation Governance Board will ostensibly be tasked with targeting speech that spreads false news and unfounded conspiracy theories.

For many conservative Americans, however, it seems like a thinly veiled plot to silence political expression.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has become one of the most outspoken critics of this plan.

During a recent appearance on Fox News, he promised to do everything in his power to put an end to the board.

According to Rebel News:

Speaking to Fox News’ Jesse Watters on late Monday, Paul said that he is currently working with fellow lawmakers in Congress to dissolve the agency, which is being run by the Department of Homeland Security.

The Kentucky lawmaker expressed his full opposition to policing speech, and news organizations, arguing that determinations about “disinformation” should be determined by the public and not by the government.

“We’re going to shut it down,” he said. “And I’m busily getting signatures from other senators.”

“There is a way that we can get it onto the calendar. And there is perhaps a way we can actually get a vote,” he added.

Of course, he’s far from the only person who has expressed outrage on this topic.

Earlier this month, Paul confronted DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over the scope of the new board.

As Fox News reported:

Paul specifically pointed to claims that he has made about the COVID-19 pandemic that have not been in line with administration policies.

“I’ve said a million times that cloth masks don’t work. YouTube takes me down. They’re a private company I can have that beef with him. What about you? You’re going to look at that? I often say that natural immunity from having had the infection is equal to the vaccine or better. You’re going to take that down?”

In recent months, experts have said cloth masks were not very effective in combating COVID-19, yet mask mandates continued in many schools, and until recently on public transportation, with cloth masks being acceptable coverings. Other policies that have required vaccination or testing have failed to account for immunity from previous infection.

“Are you going to put information out there saying that I’m spreading disinformation?” Paul asked.

Here’s a clip from his recent Fox News Channel appearance.
