Florida lawmakers have been in the news lately for a new law prohibiting the discussion of sexual orientation in early elementary educational settings.

While critics have blasted the policy as anti-LGBT, supporters say the prohibition should be common sense.

Despite the intense focus on this topic across the state, one middle school art teacher reportedly injected her sexual orientation into a recent lesson plan.

As the New York Post reported, it resulted in her losing her job.

A Florida teacher claims she was fired for discussing her pansexual status with middle school students whom she then asked to draw pictures representing their own sexual orientations.

Cape Coral art instructor Casey Scott said her students were curious about her sexual orientation and she explained to them that she was pansexual during a lesson in March, NBC2 reported.

“A discussion happened in class and because of that, now I’m fired,” Scott told the outlet.

Pansexual refers to someone who is attracted to all categories of people regardless of their sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.

Many leftist activists believe young students should be exposed to explicit representations of alternative lifestyles and sexually themed material.

Nevertheless, it’s clear that plenty of Americans still believe such topics should be off limits — especially among kids in the earliest years of school.

The reaction to Scott’s termination reflected similar opinions from numerous Twitter users.

One concerned father weighed in on the troubling trend in a recent Fox News op-ed:

Parents don’t want gender ideology and critical race theory taught to their children. We want our children to learn how to read and write. The single biggest equalizer in history is literacy. Teach any child from any socio-economic background how to read and comprehend what they read and empower them to take control of their futures.

After two years of distance learning and years of politicizing our children’s education, parents are starting to question the motives of the public education system. Parents across this country have a desire to discuss how the education system, charged with teaching their kids, will fix the exposed learning deficiencies. But, do we hear anything about literacy remediation or literacy in general? No! Instead, we hear about gender fluidity and a curriculum built around ideologies and indoctrination.

For her part, Scott attempted to defend her behavior with media interviews like the one below.
