The Great Student Rebellion made its way to the Windy City following walkouts by California high schoolers last week.
If the nickname sticks, remember that I coined the term first.
Dozens of Chicago-area high school students staged a walkout on Monday after being ordered to wear masks to attend class.
School officials made the demand even though an Illinois judge issued a temporary ruling to block the state’s school mask mandate.
An Illinois judge has issued a TRO vs Governor J.B. Pritzker, 2 state agencies, & 140+ school districts that halts a statewide "vax or text" mandate for school personnel, and exposure-quarantines & masks on staff & students.
Pritzker says he'll appeal.https://t.co/lDr92BfyXg

In response, maskless students at Vernon Hills High School and Libertyville High School protested the mask mandates in their schools.
When they arrived unmasked, students at both schools were escorted to their gymnasiums.
Students at Vernon Hills High School were given the following three options:
- Wear a mask
- Remain in the gym all day
- Leave
Any guesses what the students of Vernon Hills High decided?

OBTW…one @District128 tag line is to "develop graduates who are daring."

The students ditched their abusers who refuse to let them breathe fresh oxygen and smile amongst their peers.
In a joint statement, the students said:
Today, a group of us from Vernon Hills HS in District 128 arrived at school without masks protesting the mandate. Here is our statement on the event. We encourage students from other districts to stand with us. Thank you to our parents for your support. #UnmaskOurStudents #D128 pic.twitter.com/jWSd8ysO2K

The COVID World noted:
Their walkout came as Illinois’ attorney general appealed Sangamon County Circuit Judge Raylene Grischow’s ruling last week that invalidated Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s school mask mandate.
The judge ruled Friday that the Democratic governor had overstepped his authority in an emergency order that had required students and staff to wear face coverings.
Her ruling, which affected more than 150 school districts, came after more than 700 parents filed a lawsuit challenging the state’s mask mandate.
The fun carried into Tuesday as students staged another walkout.
Day two of the Vernon Hills High School walkout! As other districts around us removed the mandate last night, D128 is one of the few remaining districts left. We’ve complied for two years. The science no longer supports it. Neither do we. @D128Herrmann @jonjkerr @michaelpsenger pic.twitter.com/nXfb9nzoqh

Since courage is contagious, the Great Student Rebellion spread to Maine South High School in Park Ridge.

WGXA reported:
“We want to be free of these masks. We want to see each other’s faces,” the alleged statement from students reads. “We want to bring back a sense of normalcy and enjoy what is left of our high school years.”
An Illinois judge previously ruled Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker’s school mask mandate overstepped gubernatorial authority, according to the New York Post. Yet, several school districts have still continued requiring masks, the outlet reported.
May this rebellion spread to every school in America!
