Wales has thrown their hat in the race for the most ridiculous omicron-related COVID-19 restrictions.
Norway had a good showing by banning alcohol from bars and restaurants.
However, Wales had the opposite approach with equal stupidity.
In Wales, individuals can receive fines for leaving their residence for work or volunteer services.

Summit News noted:
“No person may leave the place where they are living, or remain away from that place, for the purposes of work or to provide voluntary or charitable services,” states new guidance issued by the government.
Those who flout the new ‘work from home’ rules, introduced in the name of stopping the spread of the Omicron variant, face fines of £60 for each infraction, while companies could be hit with fines of up to £10,000.
Ironically, Welsh citizens are free to drink at their favorite pub without fear of getting fined by the government.
So in Wales, you can still go to the pub, but from Monday you’ll be fined £60 for going to work. In Scotland, if you go to a nightclub then you still have to observe 1m social distancing. Good that almost two years in we’ve got better at setting rules. https://t.co/zp7Qam0gxF

The absurdity of new COVID rules introduced in Wales was exposed after it was confirmed that people can now be fined for showing up to work but are still free to go on pub crawls.https://t.co/8H2NPvEKmh

Meanwhile in Wales 🏴
A place where you can go for a drink with your work colleagues in a pub, but get fined for going to meet your work colleagues at work. But if you work in a pub you can meet your work colleagues at work without getting a fine,🤡 🌍— James Melville (@JamesMelville) December 22, 2021

So, you may have to pay a fine to work and earn more income.
On the other hand, it’s okay to blow your hard-earned money on food and alcohol at the pub.
One puts you at risk of omicron and the other doesn’t.
Will someone please make this make sense?

However, critics have pointed out that under the rules, Welsh people can still legally visit pubs, shops and restaurants and not face the same punishment.
Up until now, the Welsh government had advised working from home but the new measures will enforce everyone to stay away from the office unless it is essential.
The draconian rules were enforced due to sharply rising cases of the Omicron variant.
But some fear that staff may now be put off working altogether for fear of getting a criminal record.
Conservative MP for Clwyd West David Jones tweeted about the absurd rules:
This even applies if you live, say, in Flintshire and work in, say, Chester. That is, of course, if Cheshire Constabulary can be persuaded to enforce the Welsh legislation. Which is probably a rather big “if”.

The Welsh Govt’s approach to public health is unusual. You can’t go to work but can sit in Wetherspoon’s all day. You can’t watch a football match from an open-air stand but can watch it on TV in a crowded bar. Are there some peculiarly antiviral properties that prevail in pubs?

I have a tougher time figuring out which is crazier, the idiotic rules or the individuals who comply with them.
