Two Students From the Same High School Die Unexpectedly in the Same Week

Anderson High School students and staff have endured a traumatic week with the passing of two of its students.

17-year-old senior Brock Vogel, an athlete who played football, baseball, and wrestled, passed away on Tuesday, December 7th.

Three days later, 18-year-old senior Skylar Due unexpectedly died in her sleep.

Causes of death for each student haven’t been publicly disclosed.

Following the tragedies, Forest Hills Superintendent Scot Prebles canceled first-semester final exams for Anderson and Turpin high schools.

Anderson High School students and staff had only just begun to grieve the loss of senior Brock Vogel when, three days later, another senior student died unexpectedly in her sleep.

Skylar Due was 18, according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office. An investigation into her death is ongoing, officials with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office told The Enquirer Monday afternoon.

An Anderson High School student has died suddenly, the second student death at the school in one week.

Skylar Due, a senior at the high school, died unexpectedly in her sleep Friday, a statement from the Forest Hills school district reads.

No further information on her death was provided.

“In light of this information, our students and staff may need additional support. As such, schools will be open and prepared to support all students and staff. However, if you choose to keep your student at home, please be sure that they are supervised and safe. Should you choose to keep your student home, please follow your student’s building attendance procedure,” a statement from the district reads in part. “I encourage anyone who has questions, is struggling, or would benefit from speaking with a licensed care professional to do so while at school. In situations like this, the district utilizes the FHSD Traumatic Event Crisis Intervention Team (TECIP) which includes support from district staff, school counselors, school psychologists, and other mental health professionals. Our FHSD TECIP team has a plan to address the immediate needs of students and staff.”

Due is the second student that died within one week. On Tuesday, school officials announced the passing of Brock Vogel, who played football, baseball and wrestled.

Vogel’s cause of death has also not been released.

Due to the recent deaths, district officials say first semester exams will not be required.

Students who feel the final exam would have been beneficial to their semester average are permitted to take those exams as scheduled, school officials said, and should contact their teachers via email to make them aware.
