The passing of Bob Dole is regrettable, and as always our hearts go out to the family and loved ones.
President Trump has released a statement offering his condolences for the family, and to pay respects to the former U.S. Presidential candidate.
Dole passed away at 98 years of age due to stage IV lung cancer, and is survived by his wife Elizabeth and several children.

Bob Dole was a truly great American. I had the privilege to know him for the past 26 years as Senator, presidential candidate, husband to my boss, and wise and generous friend. Another icon of the greatest generation has now stepped into history.#BobDole pic.twitter.com/X8Iby81x4P

The Associated Press had this to say about Dole:
Dole announced in February 2021 that he’d been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. During his 36-year career on Capitol Hill, Dole became one of the most influential legislators and party leaders in the Senate, combining a talent for compromise with a caustic wit, which he often turned on himself but didn’t hesitate to turn on others, too.
He shaped tax policy, foreign policy, farm and nutrition programs and rights for the disabled, enshrining protections against discrimination in employment, education and public services in the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Biden also had some words of respect for Dole, according to The Hill:
“A war hero and among the greatest of the Greatest Generation. And to me, he was also a friend whom I could look to for trusted guidance, or a humorous line at just the right moment to settle frayed nerves,” Biden added.
“I will miss my friend. But I am grateful for the times we shared, and for the friendship Jill and I and our family have built with Liddy and the entire Dole family,” he added.
