Democrat Senator Joe Manchin Will Support Banning Abortions That Uses Tax Payer Dollars

At this point Republican’s should just trade Mitt Romney for Joe Manchin.

Democrat Senator of West Virginia Joe Manchin has publicly stated that he will support the Hyde Amendment, which bans taxpayer dollars to fund abortions in the United States.

While Pelosi and other Dems are calling to get rid of the Hyde agreement Manchin has gone on record to say “as a lifelong Catholic, I have always been pro-life and believe that the Hyde amendment ensures federal funds are not used to perform abortions anywhere in the country”.

Democrat Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania said he would also support the Hyde agreement which is a major blow to Democrats.

It appears life long Democrats are figuring out the current Democratic party is no longer the Party that JFK represented.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said he will continue to support the Hyde Amendment, which bans taxpayer funding for abortion in the United States.

Bloomberg Government reported Thursday Manchin stated he would back the longstanding amendment to spending bills that prohibits the federal government from funding most abortions.

At the end of May, President Joe Biden released his Fiscal Year 2022 budget, one that would eliminate the longstanding Hyde Amendment and force American taxpayers to fund abortions.

The Hyde Amendment has enjoyed tremendous bipartisan support for decades, including from Biden himself.

Since his campaign for president, Biden, a self-described Catholic, has decided the Hyde Amendment must go.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, also a self-described Catholic, said in December repealing the Hyde Amendment is “long overdue.”

Senator Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) said he would continue to support the Hyde amendment, in comments to Bloomberg Government on Thursday.

“I’m going to support Hyde in every way possible,” Manchin said. The West Virginia senator is one of only a few congressional Democrats who have expressed support for the measure, which bans almost all federal funding of abortions.

Because Manchin sits on the Senate Appropriations Committee, which is evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans, Manchin could require the Hyde amendment to be included in any spending bill to reach the Senate floor.

“As a lifelong Catholic, I have always been pro-life and believe that the Hyde amendment ensures federal funds are not used to perform abortions anywhere in the country,” Manchin told National Review in a written statement in December 2020. “Repealing the Hyde amendment would be foolish and I’m strongly opposed to this push from some Members of Congress. If this legislation is brought before the Senate I will vote against repealing the Hyde amendment.”
