Calling Kamala: It’s Been 29 Days Since Being Tapped For the Border Crisis

We’ve all seen the pictures.

Children wrapped in aluminum foil, lying side by side in giant plastic containers like badly packed school lunches.

Babies being dropped over walls and left to fend for themselves.

An abandoned little boy, reaching out to a Border patrol agent crying, “I didn’t know where to go.”

Allegations of sexual abuse at migrant facilities.

So where is Kamala?

Wednesday was the 29th day after Kamala was tapped by Biden to handle the crisis at the Border and since then we have heard nothing from her about it.

Crickets.

And the deafening silence of Democratic hypocrisy.

According to a Fox News report:

On Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, joined the list of GOP lawmakers who’ve publicly questioned whether Harris is committed to addressing border issues such as unaccompanied minors, overcrowding at migrant shelters and crimes perpetrated in border towns by Mexican cartels.

Kamala Harris has been on the job for a month. Literally, she has done nothing,” Roy said during an appearance on Fox News’ “The Faulkner Focus.” “She’s not gone to the border. She’s done nothing to address this.”

The situation is so bad that last week, Steve Scalise actually brought a milk carton with Harris’ face on it to Congress to illustrate the extent to which she has been MIA.

As The Sara Carter show explained:

A throwback to the “missing child” advertisements plastered on many U.S. milk cartons starting in the early 1980s, the tongue-in-cheek prop criticizes her for refusing to visit the U.S.-Mexico border yet amid a record-breaking surge in migrants crossing it, especially unaccompanied children. It also slams her for what Republicans argue is the Biden administration’s lack of urgency in handling the massive influx of people.

Other Republicans are also voicing their frustration at Kamala’s lack of leadership and apparent concern about the crisis taking place at the border.

Fox News reported today:

Vice President Kamala Harris plans to meet virtually next Monday with Guatemala’s President Alejandro Giammattei regarding the migrant crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Plans for the meeting were confirmed Wednesday by Symone Sanders, a senior adviser and chief spokeswoman for Harris.

In addition, Harris plans to travel in June to the so-called Northern Triangle region of Central America, Fox News has learned. But the precise itinerary for the vice president was unclear. The region includes Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.

But no one actually thinks this is going to solve the situation.

Perhaps, Kamala thinks hiding behind her conversations with Guatemala’s President can deflect from the fact that she lacks the courage to go to the border and actually face up to the mess the Biden administration has made.

How is she going to explain to the Guatemalan President the dire situation at the border if she doesn’t think its important enough to pay a visit even once?

According to our friends at Fox News:

Trump-era DHS officials have pushed back, saying the border crisis and diplomatic discussions are linked.

“You can’t talk to Northern Triangle countries, or to Mexican officials, without understanding the pressures and the situation and atmosphere on the border,” former acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf said at a Heritage Foundation press conference last week. “The two are so linked, you can’t do one without the other.”

So I’m glad Kamala’s found something to keep her busy. And it may help the Democrats explain her bewildering behavior a little better. But refusing to accept or acknowledge the tragedy unfolding at our own border is not leadership.

A tragedy, I might add, of the Biden administration’s own making.

And one that shows no sign of stopping.

Fox News is now reporting that Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas has filed a petition to resume Trump-era Border restrictions.

In an interview with Harris Faulkner, Roy said:

Cartels have operational control of our border. Period. Anybody who’s following it knows that. Tamaulipas, the state right across the border from Texas is run by the dangerous cartels, the Reynosa faction of the Gulf Cartel and the Cartel del Noreste of Los Zetas. They are using human beings as shields for profit. They’re moving people into Texas, into our communities, into San Antonio, which I represent. We’ve stopped vehicles with human beings that are being sent to stash houses in Houston to be used for profit and human trafficking and sex trafficking…

his is happening in the most powerful nation in the world. We’re allowing this to occur and Democrats refuse to do anything about it. Kamala Harris has been on the job for a month. Literally. She has done nothing. She’s not gone to the border. She’s done nothing to address this.

So, yes, yesterday I filed a discharge petition to my friend Yvette Harrell’s bill to require Title 40 to the CDC’s requirement and guidelines that we protect against the influx of pandemics into the United States, that we resume enforcing that which the Biden administration has refused to do. So now we will force a vote on the floor of the House if we can get up to six Democrat colleagues to agree that we should secure our border and fight against the spread of the pandemic.

If the Democrats have even a modicum of sense, they will side with Roy on this.

For all its complexities, this isn’t a Left/Right issue.

It’s about a little boy sent alone to the border in the hope that he will be let in.

It’s about that same little boy, stranded by coyotes and afraid for his life.

And, it’s about selfish, unthinking policies that made things like this happen.
