Rep. Omar: Republicans “Would Lose Their Minds” If A Muslim Woman Was Nominated To The SCOTUS

Here we go again.

Representative Ilhan Omar has once again tried to cause division among the American people.

After Amy Coney Barrett received backlash for her Catholic beliefs, Omar took it upon herself to say “Republicans would lose their minds if a Muslim woman was nominated to SCOTUS.”

She then went on to say Sharia Law would be trending if a Muslim woman was elected as a Supreme Court Justice.

Fox News didn’t stay quiet and had these details to add:

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., took to Twitter on Monday to criticize “pearl-clutching” Republicans upset about the treatment Amy Coney Barrett has received from Democrats over her Catholic faith after her nomination for Supreme Court.

Omar imagined the reaction from Republicans “if a Muslim woman was nominated to SCOTUS.”

“You would see Republicans lose their mind about her religious background… “Sharia law” would be trending right now. Miss me with the pearl-clutching and all this righteous talk about religious freedom.”

Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri lambasted what he called a “pattern and practice of religious bigotry” by Democrats. However, Democratic senators made clear in advance of the hearing that they didn’t plan to question the judge on the specifics of her religious faith.

Newsweek covered the story too:

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota said on Monday that Republicans would “lose their mind” if a Muslim woman were appointed to fill a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Let’s be clear about this: if a Muslim woman was nominated to SCOTUS you would see Republicans lose their mind about her religious background,” Omar wrote on Twitter. “‘Sharia law’ would be trending right now. Miss me with the pearl-clutching and all this righteous talk about religious freedom.”

Omar became one of the first Muslim women elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018 alongside Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. Omar’s comments about nominating a hypothetical Muslim woman to the Supreme Court came as the first day of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s nomination hearings for Amy Coney Barrett was underway.

Would you lose your mind if a Muslim woman was nominated to the United States Supreme Court?
