The Internet is abuzz today.
Presidential candidate Joe Biden during the debate last night was tugging his jacket and reaching for something inside of his jacket, to everyone’s surprise, it looked like a wire popped out.
It couldn’t have been his microphone because that was on the other side of his jacket.
Before the debate, Trump’s campaign asked Biden’s team if they could have a 3rd party check each candidate for ear devices or transmitters.
Biden’s team denied the request.
Some are speculating it was a wire or transmitting/receiving device.
We’re not saying what it is because we don’t know.
Look at the video for yourself what do YOU think the wire in his jacket was for?
And there it is. #JoeWired https://t.co/bk1dkZ9gQo

While many are claiming it was a wire, two leading Fact Check organizations are claiming it is NOT.
Lead Stories claims it was not a wire but was instead a crease in his shirt:
Is it true that Joe Biden was wearing a wire during the first presidential debate with Donald Trump on Sept. 29, 2020? No, that is not true. Not only is there no evidence to back up a claim making the rounds on social media, a blow-up of a moment captured on camera clearly shows that the supposed “wire” was a shirt crease.
Similarly, Politifact says it’s not a wire:
The video shows 13 seconds of the first presidential debate between Biden and President Donald Trump. It has spawned dozens of conspiracy theory posts on Facebook, which were flagged as part of the company’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.)
Did Biden get help during the debate? No — the posts are baseless, and other fact-checkers have debunked them. But they quickly took off on social media.
The video appears to have been posted around 9:45 p.m on Sept. 29. It was then shared in several Facebook groups dedicated to Trump and QAnon, a baseless conspiracy theory about child sex trafficking. As of Sept. 30, claims that Biden wore a wire had been shared in hundreds of Facebook posts, according to CrowdTangle, a social media insights tool.
Biden was not wearing a wire during the debate — the video shows a crease in Biden’s dress shirt, which is accentuated by the bright TV lights. Thin shadows similar to the one highlighted in the clip also appear on the left side of his shirt.
So there you go!
You have the facts and you’ve seen the videos.

Fox News covered Trump’s campaign asking Biden if he would be willing to be checked before the debate:
Fox News has learned that the president’s re-election campaign wants the Biden campaign to allow a third party to inspect the ears of each debater for electronic devices or transmitters. The president has consented to this kind of inspection, but a source said the Biden campaign has declined the ear check.
The Trump campaign, in the hours ahead of the debate, claimed Biden’s campaign had agreed to such an inspection before reversing themselves.
“Joe Biden’s handlers several days ago agreed to a pre-debate inspection for electronic earpieces but today abruptly reversed themselves and declined. Biden’s handlers have asked for multiple breaks during the debate, which President Trump doesn’t need, so we have rejected that request,” Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said.
