Another police officer defends his own life from a criminal, and another city riots in protest.
A police officer responded to a domestic disturbance call in Lancaster PA on Sunday.
Body cam footage shows the officer approaching a door, when out of nowhere, a knife wielding man charges the officer with the knife held above his head.
The officer attempted to run away but had to discharge his firearm several times to defend himself, striking the suspect and killing him.
Sunday night, violent protesting erupted in the streets of Lancaster, with several protesters targeting the police station.
Police cars were vandalized.
Bricks were thrown.
Windows were smashed.
Police were eventually forced to use pepper spray to disperse the mob.
The New York Post has more on the protests which erupted:
Protesters poured onto the streets of Lancaster, Pennsylvania Sunday night calling for “justice” — for a man shot dead by police while charging at an officer with a knife.
Body camera footage showed Ricardo Munoz, 27, brandishing a knife and wielding it over an officer’s head as cops responded to a domestic disturbance around 4:15 p.m.
The blade-wielding Lancaster, Pennsylvania, man shot dead by police was previously busted in 2019 for knifing four people in the city, according to his lawyer and officials.
Protesters marched from the scene of the deadly shooting on Laurel and Union streets to the Lancaster Police Department about a mile away, hurling bricks, smashing windows and vandalizing police cars.
After the crowd gathered on an access ramp near the station, police asked them to move, issuing several warnings that “chemical munitions” would be used, PennLive.com reported.
“OC spray,” or pepper spray, was eventually deployed when the mob refused to move, police said, adding that some were “physically challenging officers that were moving to clear people from the ramp.”Bricks were thrown through the front of the police station and post office, police said.
Several videos of the violent reaction from rioters has been posted on Twitter.
What in the hell is wrong with these sick people?
The body cam footage makes it very clear that the police officer did everything correctly.
The suspect had every intention of murdering that officer.
Had the officer reacted in any other way, he'd be dead.
Our friends at the Daily Wire have more on the incident:
Violent riots and looting broke out in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on Sunday night after a man, identified by police as Ricardo Munoz, 27, died in an officer-involved shooting. Local authorities quickly released footage from the incident that showed the man running out of house and charging at the police officer with a knife.
Police responded to the home after a woman called them to report that her brother was allegedly becoming aggressive with their mother and trying to break into the home.
“The first officer on the scene walked to the front of the residence and made contact with a woman, who was identified as a family member,” The Lancaster Bureau of Police said in a statement. “A male subject then exited the front door of the residence and began chasing the officer. Preliminary information and body worn camera footage indicates that the male subject had a knife in his right hand as he was chasing the officer. The officer fired several shots from his firearm, striking the subject. The subject, identified as 27 year old Lancaster man, did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was the only police officer on the scene at the time of the shooting and his body worn camera was activated and recorded the encounter.”
“The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office was contacted immediately and is now conducting an investigation into the officer-involved shooting,” the statement later added. “While the investigation is still in the early stages and is on-going, the Lancaster City Bureau of Police is releasing this video footage after providing it to the investigators.”
