HBO’s John Oliver: Portland Protests “Mostly Peaceful”

The "Last Week Tonight" host continues the disinformation regarding the peaceful nature of the events unfolding in Portland.

The liberal propaganda machine is firing on all cylinders to conceal from their followers the severity of the chaos going on in Portland.

Or maybe they all know how radical it is and just want to feel good about it.

As we just covered, Dem. Rep Jerry Nadler has just called Antifa in Portland, "a myth."

Now we have another talking head, HBO's John Oliver, calling the riots "mostly peaceful."

From OregonLive.Com:

The ongoing protests in Portland got more national TV attention Sunday night courtesy of “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver,” as the host tore into President Donald Trump’s deployment of federal troops, and Fox News’ “the end of America as we know it” portrayal of what’s been happening in the Rose City.

Oliver began Sunday’s episode of his weekly HBO show by talking about what’s been going on in Portland, which he called “The Nature Valley Granola Bar of U.S. cities, in that it’s crunchy, messy, and, let’s be honest, nobody’s first choice.”

The host went on to talk about how the news has recently been dominated by images from the protests, which began as a response to the killing of George Floyd and to systemic racism and police brutality. In recent weeks, the protests have become larger and more heated, following President Donald Trump’s deployment of federal officers charged with protecting federal property in downtown Portland, where nightly demonstrations that generally begin in a peaceful manner have regularly become more chaotic in late-night and early morning hours.

Oliver took issue with Trump’s claiming that local officials wanted the federal deployment, citing comments from Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, in which both stated exactly the opposite, and called on the federal forces to leave.

The host also alluded to a supposed pattern of federal officers throwing protesters in unmarked vans, though The Oregonian/OregonLive recently wrote: “While reports of federal officers scooping up citizens and placing them in unmarked vans without probable cause has generated extensive headlines, lawsuits and national outrage, only one Portland protester, 29-year-old Mark Pettibone, has provided a first-hand account of this occurring. There is also a widely circulated video on social media of another, unidentified man dressed in black being approached by men in camouflage, being detained and walked to unmarked van and driven off.”

The Portland protests have been mostly peaceful, Oliver said, though there have been “some isolated chaotic incidents.” Oliver also alluded to local protesters objecting to Portland police having used tear gas, and how Wheeler, as the mayor and police commissioner was also blamed, “to the point where Wheeler actually became known as ‘Tear Gas Teddy,' which I guarantee you, is set to be this Christmas’ worst-selling toy.”

Deadline also offered their own platform to John Oliver's craven defense of violence:

John Oliver was excited to show off his brand new glass desk on Last Week Tonight before he went on to put the Trump administration on blast for its handling of the protests in Portland that have been happening for the past two months since George Floyd’s death.

The protests in Portland have prompted the deployment of federal agents. As a result, there has been video footage of camouflaged agents arresting protestors and putting them in unmarked cars. One news report shows a Navy veteran who was beaten and pepper-sprayed by agents after he attempted to have a civil conversation with them.

“That is intense and frankly, says so much about this country right now,” said Oliver. “CNN will show federal agents treating a human being like a pinata and censor the same man for rightfully telling those agents to f*ck the f*ck off.”

Oliver points out that the deployment of federal agents is a “sharp escalation of questionable legality” — something that isn’t new for the Trump administration. In a news clip, Donald Trump is seen saying that they are doing a “great job” in Portland when it comes to the protests and that “many people are in jail right now.”

“It’s never good when Trump says he’s doing a ‘great job’ given he thinks that the administration is doing a ‘great job’ dealing with the coronavirus and he once proclaimed Ben Affleck would do a great job as Batman,” Oliver quipped. “Clearly, this man has no sense of what a ‘great job’ actually looks like.”

It turns out that Oregon Governor Kate Brown did not want the federal agents there and said that they should be removed from the streets. Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said the same thing during a news interview blatantly saying, “We want them to leave.”

Oliver points out the obvious, saying, “Masked individuals throwing people into unmarked vans is never a good idea if you want to deescalate a situation.” He adds that the protests have been mostly peaceful but there have been isolated incidents where local police have overreacted, which earned Wheeler the nickname “Tear Gas Teddy.”

There have been rioters and defacers during these protests, but as seen in a news clip, the protests have been contained to one city block. In fact, there were fewer confrontations between protesters and police before federal agents were called in.

However, Fox News has been reporting it as “left-wing violence.” During one report, Sean Hannity listed all the violence happening in Portland when most of it was graffiti. Oliver points out that the violence is an overstatement and Hannity’s “tone does not reflect conditions on the ground.”

As you can see, as proven in the above excerpts, and Twitter reactions, Leftists in this country are either completely insane, blind, or delusional, and truly believe that people like Sean Hannity are big fat liars.

Or...

They are so corrupt that they want their followers to become desensitized to this sort of lawlessness, so that it may be enacted in places across the country.

John Oliver either has no understanding of the law which is clear that Trump doesn't need anyone's permission to protect a Federal Court House, or he wants to see it burn.

Sean Hannity isn't lying when he says places are being fire bombed.

Go on Twitter and see the molotov cocktail party for yourself.

Even if fires were set through the crude means of fireworks, or BIC lighters, it should not be acceptable to anyone.

Whether a city block or the entire metropolitan area is burning to the ground, IT DOES NOT MATTER!

There should be no tolerance for lawless violence, targeting police, or buring down private and public property.

That so many Americans don't see to agree, is perhaps scarier than the riots themselves.
