Leftist personalities on TV never miss a chance to conflate lawful gun ownership with illegal gun activities in our communities.
Don Lemon, stalwart of all things absurd, and his sidekick, Chris Cuomo, didn't miss their chance to do so last night.
From our friends at Fox News:
CNN anchor Don Lemon suggested Tuesday night that the "availability of guns" is what has contributed to the rise in Chicago crime.
Chicago has witnessed an alarming increase in shootings and homicides in recent weeks, including Tuesday night's shootout at a funeral home that left at least 14 injured, according to police. The Trump administration has also repeatedly clashed with Chicago Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who has slammed the White House for offering to send the feds to quell the violence.
During the nightly handoff with "Cuomo Prime Time" anchor Chris Cuomo, Lemon expressed gratitude that crime in Chicago is being discussed but warned that political motivations could be behind it.
"I'm glad that people are starting to pay attention to crime, especially in cities like Chicago. But it is sad that they're doing it in a year where they can use it as a political cudgel to hurt someone and try to help someone else," Lemon said.
"Listen, there's spikes in crime and there's real work that needs to be done, right? Needs to be fixed. I lived in Chicago for a while. Every night when I lived in Chicago, there was a crime story, a shooting story. I've been doing stories about crime at this network for so long. I'm glad people are paying attention to it but it's been an issue for a long time. And do you know one of the biggest issues is? The availability of guns. And you won't hear that from some people."
The Boston Herald points out that only a matter of weeks ago, Lemon & Cuomo had a laugh over the rise on violence across American cities:
Last week, in their nightly crossover CNN’s Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo entertained themselves by mocking conservatives and Trump-friendly media for using what they consider scare tactics to alarm the American people and get them to vote for the GOP candidate in November.
The two anchors got into character, affecting blustery, overwrought voices as Lemon lampooned reports that “Democratic cities are in chaos right now,“ to which Cuomo sarcastically responded, “Crime is rising.”
“Oh my God it’s so bad,” Lemon, clearly enjoying himself, smirkingly declared.
The entire exchange was a comedy roast meant to belittle anyone not fully embracing the aftermath of the George Floyd protests as simple-minded opportunists or worse.
The pair of cable news journalists slapped away contentions that “crime is rising as they defund the police” as Chris Cuomo joked as empty suppositions, not worthy of a serious airing.
Let us do what the two marquee stars of the “most Trusted Name in News” channel did not do: look at the facts.
According to NBC News, “Over 1,500 people have been shot in Chicago, almost 900 in Philadelphia, and more than 500 in New York City so far in 2020 — all up significantly from the same time last year (1,018 in Chicago, 701 in Philadelphia and 355 in New York).”
Just over the Fourth of July weekend, 30 people were shot in Philadelphia which has seen homicides spike upwards of 30% compared to 2019.
Similarly, Atlanta is also up in shootings by 20% compared to the same time in 2019. One of the victims was an 8-year-old girl named Secoriea Turner who was in the car with her mother when a group of armed people converged."
Thank goodness that cable subscribers are forced to subsidize Fake News CNN, because who in their right mind would take these bozos seriously?
They make a mockery of suffering in America because it counters their political agendas.
The fact of the matter is that access to guns isn't the problem in America, as the majority of gun crimes are committed with illegally held firearms.
People like Don Lemon peddling propaganda are the biggest problem in America.
