De Blasio Wants To Cut $1bn From Police, Even As Shootings Skyrocket in New York

Despite an astronomical increase in shootings and other violent crimes this year, Mayor Bill De Blasio is playing politics with the NYPD budget.

What does a responsible mayor do when his city suffers a drastic spike in shootings across his city?

He makes a major cut to the policing budget….duh!

Our friends at Fox News have the scoop on NYC Mayor, Bill De Blasio’s latest genius idea:

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said he has proposed a plan for the city to cut $1 billion from the NYPD’s nearly $6 billion budget.

The Democratic mayor revealed details of his proposal during a Monday morning press conference at City Hall. His announcement falls in line with city council leaders’ calls for the billion-dollar cut to the police department’s budget.

“My office presented to City Council a plan that would achieve the billion in savings for the NYPD and shift resources to young people, to communities in a way that would help address a lot of the underlying issues that we know are the cause of so many problems in our society,” he said.

De Blasio prefaced his announcement by detailing what he described as “the toughest budget that we’ve had to do as an administration here at City Hall.”

“We’re in a whole different situation in fact than New York City has ever faced in our history – a health care crisis, an economic crisis, a disparity crisis, a budget crisis all wrapped into one and on a massive, massive scale,” he said. “We’ve gotta focus on those basics health, safety, food, shelter.”

At the same time, he said, “we have an unprecedented opportunity to change some things.”

Change some things he will.

Who has money for police when you're offering free healthcare to every illegal immigrant in your city?

Fortune details further where some of the targeted cuts are going to be made:

“My office presented to the city council a plan that would achieve a billion dollars in savings for the NYPD and shift resources to young people, to communities in a way that would help address a lot of the underlying issues that we know are the cause of so many problems in our society,” de Blasio said Monday. He suggested that he would look at police overtime which is “always an area where we want to do better.”

The Mayor's Office told Fortune that he has proposed a cut to funding for police construction projects. He would use that money to boost the budgets for public housing and youth centers.

In fiscal year 2020, NYPD overtime pay accounted for $635 million, 44% of all overtime spending in the New York City budget. That’s up from $485 million in 2014 despite a reduction in crime."

So you're going to cut spending, likely reduce police staffing, then you want to target overtime pay for those remaining?

Sounds like a great way to boost morale!

I thought our schools were warzones??

Maybe that's only when the objective is to strip law abiding citizens of their right to bear arms.

But now it's time to get rid of the cops altogether, so good luck kids!

500 shootings...rookie numbers, Chicago gets that many in a weekend!

Local affiliate NBC4 in New York reports even more shocking statistics to put the increased violence in context:

New York City shootings over the last seven days skyrocketed by more than 127% compared with the same time period in 2019, from just 26 last year to 59 in 2020, according to NYPD data obtained by News 4.

Since Sunday night until early Monday morning, there have been at least five shooting incidents with five victims, including one fatal, according to preliminary police data. Two were in the Bronx, two were in Brooklyn and one was in Queens. Police say 17-year-old Brandon Hendricks was killed before midnight Monday on Davidson Avenue.

On Saturday, a man and a woman were shot dead in broad daylight by a gunman armed with an AR-15.

Police identified the suspect as Charles Hernandez, 47, and say he wore a blonde wig as he allegedly gunned down Chioteke Thompson, 23, and Stephanie Perkins, 39.

Last week, there were 55 shootings compared to just 12 during the same period last year to 55 in 2020, NYPD data says."

The prospect of cutting the NYC Police budget by nearly 20% is so absurd, it leaves one wondering how anyone could vote for a coward like Mayor De Blasio.

He's willing to sacrifice real lives to score political brownies points with a deranged movement that is going to destroy minority communities in this country.

Nevermind the fact that NYC is one of, if not the largest target for terrorists in the world.

Have New Yorkers already forgotten 9/11?

One week New York officials are eliminating the undercover unit, today they want to slash the funding, tomorrow it will be the anti-terrorism unit.

The administration of NYC is criminally negligent, you couldn't pay me to move there.

You just can't reason with stupid.
