I wonder if the people of Chicago really want fewer police.

For many families across the country, Father’s Day weekend is a time for celebration.

In Chicago, one father lost a 3 year old son to the cities gangland violence and there were scores of other casualties.

From CNN:

Eleven people were killed, including four children, and 67 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago during the Father’s Day weekend, police told CNN.

This weekend’s youngest victim, 3-year-old Mekhi James, was shot Saturday evening when someone opened fire at his father’s car as they traveled through the city’s Austin neighborhood, according to Chicago police records and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The boy’s father rushed him to West Suburban Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The father, 27, sustained graze wounds to the abdomen during the incident.
The shootings happened from 6 p.m. Friday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday. The weekend of violence came just a few weeks after Chicago experienced its deadliest Memorial Day weekend in four years, with 10 people fatally shot and 39 injured.

While the numbers reported by CNN were shocking enough, it appears that the network may have been considerably shy in its reported shootings.

From the Chicago Sun Times:

Chicago saw its highest number of gun violence victims in a single weekend this year with 104 people shot across the city from Friday evening to Monday morning, 14 of them fatally. Five of those killed were minors.

The weekend saw more shooting victims but less fatalities than the last weekend of May, when 85 people were shot, 24 of them fatally — Chicago’s most deadly weekend in years.

In a Sunday news conference, Chicago Police Supt. David Brown reflected on the surge in gun violence. “Bullets don’t just tear apart the things they strike,” Brown said. “Bullets also tear apart families. Bullets destroy neighborhoods and they ruin any sense of safety in a community.”

Thank God for the virtues of gun control.

5 of the deaths, by the way were children. Not just the tragically young 3 year old, but 5!

5 families destroyed by the out of control violence that has gone on in Chicago for years.

Here's Mayor Lori Lightfoot:

Yet liberal voices call out to defund the Chicago Police Dept.

These nuts want to provide even fewer resources to police, meanwhile Memorial Day was incredibly violent in Chicago with at least 50 reported shootings.

That was their deadliest Memorial Day since 2015!

Chicago is a war zone.

Here is Chicago Police Superintendent, in an article by local NPR affiliate, WBEZ:

“Our cops are working hard,” Brown said. “There are too many violent offenders not in jail or on electronic monitoring, which no one is really monitoring.”

“Our endgame strategy is to arrest violent felons but, if violent felons are getting right out of jail, we need cooperation and collaboration with other partners within the justice system,” the superintendent said.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart’s office, which runs the jail and the electronic monitoring program, sent a statement that says the program has grown by roughly 1,000 individuals since the pandemic’s start.

Chicago has a violence problem, not a policing problem.
