Trump Administration to Begin Withholding Federal Funds from Sanctuary Cities

Another promise is coming to fruition!

Last week, we reported that a Federal Court ruled that the Trump administration can withhold millions in federal grants to sanctuary cities.

Now… the Trump administration is following-through on that ruling.

Trump has urged sanctuary cities and states to prioritize the well-being of its legal citizens.

He has even asked them not to protect law-breaking criminals.

Will sanctuary cities finally listen?

Take a look at Trump’s plea below:

Trump is known to follow-through on his policies.

This is why his campaign slogal is "Promises Made, Promises Kept."

If states and cities do not go non-sanctuary, then they will lose millions of dollars in funding from the federal government.

The Hill reports that the administration will begin withholding funding:

President Trump on Thursday said his administration will begin withholding funding from self-described sanctuary cities after a federal court ruled last week that it could do so.

"As per recent Federal Court ruling, the Federal Government will be withholding funds from Sanctuary Cities," Trump tweeted. "They should change their status and go non-Sanctuary. Do not protect criminals!"

The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled on Feb. 26 that the Department of Justice (DOJ) could withhold funding from cities and states that refuse to cooperate with the Trump administration's crackdown on undocumented immigrants.

The three-judge panel found Congress had delegated authority to the attorney general to set conditions on the federal grant program it had created, called the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program.

The decision came after multiple courts had ruled against the Trump administration on the issue, saying it lacked the authority to impose immigration-related conditions on certain funding.

Trump's legal victory is a major blow to radical left-wing extremists who want open borders.

However, the vast majority of American citizens understand that the Trump Administration is finally enforcing the fule of law and is doing every effort possible to protect them.

Withholding millions in federal grants is just a part of the fight against sanctuary cities and states.

The Trump administration is also utilizing legal action to help protect American citizens.

According to Newsweek, federal appeals courts are challenging the ruling, but the Trump administration is standing its ground and going on the offense:

Three federal appeals courts in Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco have upheld injunctions barring enforcement of at least some of the administration's conditions on the funds.

In addition to the funding threats, the administration is now opening up new fronts in the battle against the cities, filing lawsuits and issuing subpoenas in what Attorney General William Barr called part of a "significant escalation" in the fight against uncooperative jurisdictions.

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program dispenses $250 million per year.

The funds are typically utilized to support state local criminal justice efforts.

But if states do not go non-sancutary, then they will no longer be eligible for the grant, per the Federal Court ruling.

Brandon Judd of Fox News highlights how this policy will help protect American citizens:

“President Trump’s latest retaliation against his hometown (New York City) takes away security funding from the number one terrorist target in America,” de Blasio said in a statement, “all because we refuse to play by his arbitrary rules.”

Those so-called arbitrary rules are the literal law of the land, requirements specifically added by Congress for cities that want to receive Bryne grants, whether Mr. de Blasio likes it or not. And the notion that a mayor who as a matter of policy refuses to hand over criminal illegal aliens to federal law enforcement — instead unleashing them to wreak more havoc on law-abiding citizens — would suddenly pretend to care about the security of his city is quite frankly offensive.

Yet to Mr. de Blasio and his allies, President Trump’s efforts to enforce the law of the land and protect American lives amounts to “retaliation.” This is the essence of their position against the Trump administration’s policy. They truly believe that they have the right to take federal money intended to help them enforce the law while simultaneously refusing to assist federal law enforcement. They actually have the gall to demand federal money intended for public safety while actively undermining public safety with their sanctuary policies.

In addition to highlighting the morally indefensible position of sanctuary jurisdictions and their supporters, the circuit court decision also highlights the importance of President Trump’s efforts to reshape the judiciary.

We have seen the lengths to which proponents of sanctuary cities are willing to go to maintain their state of lawlessness and protect their reckless practices. We have seen that there are activist judges on various courts willing to support them. And we have just seen that sound, constitutionally-based legal judgments may be our last line of defense against those who wish to replace the American Dream with American Anarchy.

Thank you, Mr. President, for staying true to your word!

It's about time that our politicians put their own constituents first!
